Also it was a server-side compromise. So updating doesn't actually do anything in this case - except for adding some more safeguards for the future.
But if you were the target then you've to completely reinstall all of your systems on your network.
And if you weren't then updating is also not really necessary for you either.
Current discussions are quite detached from where the actual risk and issues are...

@agowa338@chaos.social no, updating the client is required to prevent further infection. It does not retroactively remove the malware, if still present, but you must do it before checking your network for the infection or starting using Notepad++ again. Updating is necessary and recommended. Consider yourself a target. Reinstalling your systems is not required as the trojan can be removed by up-to-date antivirus solutions like Kaspersky, after having updated Notepad++ to the latest version as explained in: https://ieji.de/@LorenzoAncora/116154092794477293
