It does not retroactively remove the malware, if still present, but you must do it before checking your network for the infection or starting using Notepad++ again. Updating is necessary and recommended. Consider yourself a target. Reinstalling your systems is not required as the trojan can be removed by up-to-date antivirus solutions like Kaspersky, after having updated Notepad++ to the latest version as explained in: https://ieji.de/@LorenzoAncora/116154092794477293

    @LorenzoAncora@ieji.de No it's not. You're just blowing this thing way out of proportion and I'd advice you to actually read what the developer wrote in the news section on the website. It looks like you've a huge misunderstanding of what the vulnerability was and how the attack worked. I had to do risk assessments as part of my job. Also the actual lesion to be learned here is to review software, to turn auto updaters off and have an in-house software store with reviewed versions, and similar...
