@nickofnz@mastodon.nz We're not in a recession; we're in a robbery that has the ones being robbed suffering from Stockholm syndrome. They wouldn't be helping Elon M., Mark Z., Jeff B, etc. to get richer if they weren't. If they weren't, they would completely ignore the companies of those robbers.

@nickofnz@mastodon.nz We're in a second Gilded Age and the oligarch objective is to control enough information and infrastructure to create a permanent monopoly based on State and individual dependency. Individuals and govts can make a stand by no longer using US big tech, but how many people are prepared to give up their Facebook, Windows, WhatsApp, Apple, Google, Android, AWS, GCP, Azure, Xitter, BSky, Insta, ...?

@nickofnz@mastodon.nz While it is indeed true that the rich are robbing us all, the global economy has hit the wall and will shrink no matter what. We have exceeded the global ecological growth limits, ecosystems are breaking down all over the planet, we're running low on a lot of non-renewable resources, and we're consuming renewable resources faster than they grow back, destroying the capacity of the natural systems to provide those resources in the future.
