BOOM! A new legal front is opening up in the effort to hold fossil fuel companies responsible. A French oil company has, for the first time, been ruled responsible not just for its own climate-warming emissions, but for the emissions of its customers. #ClimateLitigation #ClimateChange #nzpol #France #smithvsfonterra https://theconversation.com/french-climate-lawsuit-offers-a-window-into-the-next-round-of-the-global-legal-fight-287829

You know what doesn’t get shut down when heatwaves and droughts dry up the rivers? Wind and solar. Climate change is exposing a weakness in nuclear power. Lack of water in the Danube has closed two reactors in Romania and one in Hungary. Similar problems have shut three in France. At least eight others in Europe are having to operate on reduced power. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/low-danube-river-levels-force-romania-shut-down-both-its-nuclear-power-reactors-2026-07-29/ #nuclear...

The New Zealand government is actively rewriting New Zealand's law to block Mike Smith from taking the country's biggest climate polluters to court. It's quite a story👇 https://www.greenpeace.org/international/story/85132/we-are-locked-in-a-legal-battle-against-six-of-new-zealands-biggest-greenhouse-gas-emitters/?utm_medium=nickofnz&utm_content=postid-85132&utm_campaign=&utm_source=twitter #ClimateLitigation #ClimateChange #nzpol via @greenpeace@mastodon.social

Some people today celebrated giant profits made selling oil, while others grieved the deaths of loved ones who died fighting the fires those profits caused. It’s more sickening when you consider that they always knew this would be the result, hid the truth and did it anyway. The #ClimateCrisis is a crime.

  • View post

Make it make sense. As the world burns in the oil industry's #ClimateCrisis, the Luxon government is celebrating a (futile) new search for fuel to throw on the fires. We know that we can't afford to burn even the known oil reserves, so searching for more is reckless and stupid climate denial. #MakeOilHistory #ClimateChange #MakePollutersPay

Real fox and henhouse vibes with this. The important point is managing the impact on conservation land, not making more fun for hunters. Hunters in charge are more likely to just increase numbers of pest species right? #nzpol #newzealand #hunting #conservation #nature #biodiversity #forests

It’s just hot air. No new oil or gas reserves have been found in years, despite hundreds of millions being spent on the search. The future is renewable wind and solar — and everyone knows it. #YesterdaysMan #NZPol #NewZealand #ClimateChange

This is not a natural disaster. The oil industry caused it and is knowingly throwing fuel on the fire while it continues raking in record profits at our expense. For us to have any chance of a future, the oil industry can have no future. Pass it on. #ClimateCrisis #ontario #forest #forestfires

You hear people say “this is the new normal.” If only that were true. The truth is that it’s going to keep getting worse for quite some time. How much worse is still up to us. We HAVE to end the oil industry. #ClimateCrisis
