@TechTangents@dialup.space It's hard to imagine the beast not struggling and whinging in its impotent appeals to justify its continued existence with its economics so twisted and its public perception so debased and loathed. It is my hope that, one fine day, we will reflect upon the events of the past few years and wonder, "when was the last time I heard about this stupid thing?" and go right back to touching grass.

@TechTangents@dialup.space a real shame. I have a great deal of respect for you because you explicitly called out the use of AI. I also have respect for the ATABoy creator for wanting to divest all the AI code. The transparency and honesty is well above and beyond anything I’ve really seen in the space.

@TechTangents@dialup.space Sheesh. They probably need all the attention they can get before the bubble bursts. Kind of happy they didn’t catch the AI-critical segment in the video I did ~2 weeks ago (yet). Maybe my channel is small enough to stay under the radar. What a time to be alive!🙃

@TechTangents@dialup.space Where exactly do you draw the line in AI usage? I watched the video and it felt out of place in a way none of your other content does. Do you know the value it can bring to blind people in-cases of alt-text, image descriptions, realtime OCR and so on? Very different use, but AI has become synonymous with 'Everything sucks if it even mentions it' and that couldn't be further from the truth. Bad anything is bad, but not all things require being tarred with the same brush...

@TechTangents@dialup.space Yeah, the comments on that one was looking oddly pro-AI from an outside observer. I'm a bit conflicted, but for the moment am wanting to give the ATABoy creator the benefit of the doubt. It's a situation that sucks to be in. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT CONFIG MENU, THO, GAWD DAYUM.

@TechTangents@dialup.space i wonder if there is additional data that can be obtained to support that hypothesis i tried looking at some obvious markers -- sorting the comments by "new", looking at the pro-AI comments and checking their user profiles for lack of activity or recent account registration dates, but the few i checked don't seem that sus (one was, however, a "digital currency enthusiast" according to the bio) my guess is more that the tech circles specifically do have a loud minority of generative AI fans, and right now they're just really defensive about their favorite technology (i'm pretty sure i was that kind of person about 10 years ago whenever someone attacked linux online)

@TechTangents@dialup.space is interaction not good in the first place, whether or not it's just bots? Genuine question. Anecdote: I've criticized a Chinese tech company for some valid points a few month back in comments for several videos Month after these, I suddenly get notifications for random "people" commenting on my comment, praising the company for things I did not criticize. Not suspicious at all Made me want to buy the product even less. Unfortunately it was the best option by far...

@TechTangents@dialup.space I've seen this kind of thing even when it's not AI. That is, when it comes to videos where any kind of right-wing points are likely to be made in the comments, they are happening near-instantly and I'm certain it's based on scraping transcription info from somewhere.

@TechTangents@dialup.space Thanks for alerting to me to your channel, you earned a subscriber. I've been disheartened at how AI seems to be infiltrating the retro space with some creators/hobbyists using it for various tasks. If there was ever a space for which AI should be unwelcome, retro computing would be it. I mean it should be unwelcome everywhere, but seeing retro channels embrace it is incredibly off the mark.

@TechTangents@dialup.space The incentives for people making money off AI to put those bots there is there. So far the bill is not too steep either (but it will be soon).

@Qybat@batchats.net 2026-06-08 20:47
@TechTangents@dialup.space For every LLM bot we suspect, how many go unnoticed? Look at any news story that hits YouTube front page suggestions, and I strongly suspect LLM bots will be there. As rival PR firms and government agencies around the world try to steer the public consensus to their end.

@707Kat@mastodon.art 2026-06-08 22:12
@TechTangents@dialup.space You should absolutely imply that's what's happening at least, because that is happening. The intenet has more bots than humans and the people pushing genAI will definitely sort to those kinds of tactics.

@TechTangents@dialup.space Good to see you take this stance. I watch your videos. I no longer watch those made by people who used to produce good content but who became "AI" apologists or promoters. Life is too short to spend it as a consumer of slop.

@TechTangents@dialup.space It reminds me of Technology Connections video on solar power where pretty much every single “anti” comment strangely had to specifically mention nuclear power. Like overwhelmingly
