terrible people in positions of power: concerned that they might actually be hated by the public and not allowed to retire peacefully in case they were to face uncorrupted legal accountability or if law and order were to collapse me: sickos.jpg

this whole "i'm a trump voter and i'm surprised people hate me now" business is embarrassing how the heck there can be so many people who are so unaware that they would be held responsible for the very obvious results of their politics like, you can be surprised about some things, like the war in iran, but a lot of what liberals and leftists have been warning about come from things that either trump or project 2025 specifically promised you can't say "oh, i didn'...

i'd probably be scared of anarchists too back in the early 20th century, given that they were known less for distributing food to people in need or squatting in some long-unused buildings, and more for setting off bombs and killing people in cold blood (even if those people were gilded-age robber barons)

i miss the news for a short moment, and apparently keir starmer resigns as a member of parliament and some woman stabs two people in times square, one of which might have been the VP of bank of america?

think the latest version of #wireplumber introduced a glitch, whenever i open the #GNOME sound settings app i see several duplicates of all the sound devices, including the ones that are disabled (such as the HDMI outputs, even when there's no HDMI monitor plugged in)

random thought: names that are also regular words (like "jade" or "beryl") are useful for fantasy works, because they are familiar to the audience, yet imply the least about the language or culture of the fictional setting

The hottest place for startups to strike a deal? The F1 paddock Over cold drinks in the Florida heat, this TechCrunch reporter watched from the paddock as founders and investors — the rich and the richer — mingled in search of deals. Conversations barely paused, except for the occasional glance at the track where drivers, sealed inside multi-million-dollar machines, chased the chequered flag. F1 weekend is a three-day affair, with the race as the finale. In between are kickoffs, soirées, cockt...

today i learned that the "a man has fallen into a river in lego city" line was voiced by david bateson, the same voice actor who also does 47 in the hitman games now i think that man might not have fallen by accident... (but seriously, guess the market for "english-language voice actors for works made in denmark" would be pretty small)

every time i read about sega's history in the 90s, i find out another shocking revelation that makes me wonder how the company even functioned the american and japanese branches acted more like rivals to each other than partners, even though in reality neither would have achieved success without the other but then i look at some of the decisions each branch made, and honestly i can see why sega of america, apparently, really liked meddling in japan's games -- not only did they replace...

just had a thought that (practical) freedom of religion is a relatively recent development, actually by that, i don't just mean that the government won't persecute you for following the wrong religion (or not following one), but also that the process of doing so won't immediately break your entire social network like, it used to be the norm that the house of worship one went to was one of the primary venues in which people gathered together, and switching from one faith to another...

if i could completely eject one idea from "the left" (so that holding such an idea would become totally incompatible with any progressive or egalitarian views in minds of everyone), that would be bigotry if i could eject two, the second one would be anti-intellectualism like, i understand where the sentiment comes from ("these elite eggheads are not doing any useful work, all while misleading us into policies that keep us poor and making us feel inferior by gatekeeping education...
