Article in the paper about someone who gave up listening to podcasts 24/7, which they said freed up their thought processes and internal monologue. It's something I probably need to do - often listening to stuff for the sake of it rather than cos I'm really paying attention or even properly interested. There's part of me that sees it as a process of learning or self improvement, a dripfeed of information (on history, music, philosophy or politics, depending on the show), making use of time in a productive way. But I don't think it's always valid, and the information doesn't really go in. It's an obvious point, but making time for having wandering thoughts, mulling things over, daydreaming, etc, is important too. Moreso, maybe. I might make some small changes to my habits, and see how it feels.

@grahamdunning@post.lurk.org your brain doesn't waste time, when you idly stare into space your default mode network gets busy processing stuff and making long range predictions even mindfulness gets in the way of that, you should just let your brain do its thing, you prob got enough going on without cramming even more in relatedly i reckon scrolling is part of why people feel like life's so unpredictable lately, they can't predict anything cos they never give their brains the chance *this message was brought to you by the staring into space party
