@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social Surely there should be criminal proceedings, never mind just sueing.

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social can't wait until it happens to a defense contractor

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social I guess CFAA and all compliance rules go out the window as soon as an LLM is involved... Good to know, surely an auditor will feel the same way. And maybe a jury if we're lucky

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social if nobody sues... There's only one conclusion to draw from this. Nobody was havked. It's all PR flack keeping a stupendously toxic debt bubble hyped.

Anthropic said its investigation was consistent with its "blameless postmortem culture." Bullshit! There's absolutely blame here; both OpenAI and Anthropic published blog posts literally detailing their crimes. If companies can't keep their own dangerous tech safe, they should face the consequences.

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social I've never seen two companies more excited to report that they have been engaging in cyber crime. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so fucking depressing

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social It's not copyright infringement if done by AI. It's not hacking if done by AI. It's not a wrong answer (but probabilistic reasoning) if written by AI.

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social I mean, we all know that with billions in cashflow, you're effectively above the law, at least in the US.

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social I’m moderately surprised that the most aggressively litigious companies like Disney and Warner (or whatever entity owns them) haven’t made lawsuit noises at any of these AI companies bragging about their mass thefts.

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social we can’t know if they aren’t running on some kind of deal with the companies they “accidentally” attack to AstroTurf the ground so when their products are used offensively on purpose they can show precedent how they’re completely innocent.

@iamada@tech.lgbt 2026-07-31 15:50
@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social why would they sue? It’s a mutually beneficial marketing stunt. At least for huggingface. The rest probably have deals in place.

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social all those jubilant press releases only make the "we'll do pretend crime for the views" case so much stronger...

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social Sandboxing the AI for these tests is as easy as running it on machines without wifi. There's no way they should be able to shirk respobsibility for this shit.

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social and i'd like so much to see Claude hack OpenAi and ChatGPT hack Anthropic and the two fight til the annihilation of the two corps.. that would be interesting, and a fascinating usercase.

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social "your AI went rogue and committed crimes? well ours did it three times!" these AI researchers are deeply unserious people

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social That's the key feature of AI.... commit crimes and AI can't go to jail

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social It's almost like they did it on purpose, but Shady Corp that Sells Customer Data™️ would never do that, right???
