Yes they knew each other and collaborated. They developed the double line cooperatively. You'll see that fact mentioned in every piece discussing the British Moss. I have never once seen it said anywhere in writing about Mondrian.

(Marjorie became Marlow and lived as a man from 1919 but is still referred to in all literature past and present with the pronoun "she.")

I recently saw an old-fashioned watermill working for the first time. I've seen dozens in ruin but this one was still functioning, small wooden hoppers of dry corn vibrated by the grist stone turning, slowly dropping corn under the wheel where it was powdered into meal. Under us a stream was rushing, and ever since I saw it I've taken great faith in the fact that that the water that powered the gears runs all the time, whether the mill is engaged to harness it or not. It's downright spiritual.
