That attitude of “we don’t want to tell our Covid-conscious friend/loved one about our recent/current Coviding because we don’t want them to ‘freak out’ about it, especially if we have in-person plans with them” is *precisely* why nobody is permitted in my orbit. You think it’s fine to deny someone agency and consent regarding their literal physical existence? Get outta here with that mess.

Like, maybe you figure it’s barely a few cents of your own money that could trickle through the corporate sieve into a rich person’s hate-fuelling fund and you shouldn’t have to sacrifice your “Timmies fix” because the corporation made a bad PR move. But if you spend zero money on the corporation, you can spend zero time defending your supposedly unintentional, indirect support of hate. https://thewalrus.ca/nobody-asked-for-harry-potter-donuts/

Four things: 1. It's obvious that too many people associate "Covid" with death and just presumed that the drop in the death count meant the danger of Covid was over. 2. Vaccines were pretty good at something. 3. 2022-23 was about the time of categorizing deaths "of/from/with/near/under/over/adjacent to Covid" and deciding which types would get officially recorded as Covid deaths. 4. The general public decided 3-4K weekly deaths was an acceptable price for normalsies. htt...

I told myself I was going to work on one section of the essay today and then wandered off to spend an hour reorganizing my closet.

Really something to say “outside the pandemic era” as we’re inside an era that has multiple infectious diseases swirling around multiple countries including (and possibly as a result of) the pandemic virus that kicked off this decade. There has also been a sustained drop in Covid infections within Canada with the decline in travel to the States, but minimizers ain’t gonna touch that achievement because it mucks up their narrative that Covid and its pandemic are long in the rear view.

Fucko and his staff were just fine with people spending weeks speculating about his existence until his colleague shuffled off unexpectedly. They could’ve released this sort of statement last week, before the conspiracy theories started flying. He can get in the bin anytime.
