George Lucas on "AI": “There’s nothing you can do about it. That’s progress, it’s the future.” Slopdaddy (noun) - A cognitively captured male who has long held power in their field and uses AI-advocacy to punch down by signaling that power will always prevail over consent and agency h/t @bms48@mastodon.social https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/jul/15/george-lucas-likens-ai-sceptics-to-luddites-clinging-to-horses-and-carts

@FediPact@cyberpunk.lol My two cents: IMO Meta's incursion into the fedi was part of an attempt to openwash their slimy operation in a time when regulators were breathing down their necks on both sides of the pond. The threat to them is dissipating now; the antitrust trial is over and, with the fash in control here, regulation is dead in the US. And now big tech is moving to corrupt the GDPR in the EU, so the age of digital regulation in Europe may be ending too. If you ask me the remainin...

Very surprised this hasn't blown up yet. But in case you haven't heard, admins of so-far unnamed "popular" federated instances are feeding fedi users' post history to OpenAI for "political ideology analysis" under the delusion that this is an appropriate moderation practice. @Mastodon White Mastodon's play for institutions is understandable in the context of its "good-growth" ideology, it's also indicative of a certain euro-naivete about the true nature of government. Trying to catalyze more institutional involvement in the fediverse will also inevitably invite unwanted scrutiny and interest by politicians to control, censor, surveil and age-gate the platform(s). It's unfortunate that these pipe dreams about "a bi...
