Another thing from some of the presentations today - most photos & illustrations were uncredited. I know most were not made by the presenter. One entire graphic was credited to a Slideshare presentation that itself did not credit the creator of the graphic. Some illustrations were clearly genAI. But the scientific articles were cited! To me, this illustrates the lack of respect for the work of photographers, illustrators, artists, graphic designers, etc that paved the way for mass theft.

If you're doing science communication, you should be doing it accessibly as possible. If you think science matters to people and that's why you communicate it - disabled people are a subset of the set people. If you don't know how to create accessible communications, and are unsure of the information you're finding online, there are plenty of disabled people here on Mastodon. Ask. Images, video, audio, palette...these have accessibility aspects to learn. #SciComm #Science #Ac...

I miss having access to a good dissection microscope. This is a wasp I found on the floor, dead. I used a 10x, then 14x loupe on my phone camera to take photos. If I'd had my wits about me, I would have done it all from the same position so I could have used Focus Stacker on them. I don't know my insects so I do not know which species this is. #Albania #Wasp #Entomology

Something women commonly encounter is that men ignore their expertise. PLEASE before replying to a toot asking for a particular kind of information from people with a certain area of expertise, ask yourself whether you have the expertise asked for. And look at the woman's profile - it's quite possible you'll find they have expertise in the field you're about to lecture them in the basics of. I appreciate we can # AskFedi, but it's exhausting to get #9ReplyGuys

Q: There are a number of sites that purport to list upcoming scientific conferences, but I assume most are in it for profit of one sort or another and are of varying mid - low quality. Can any scientists (esp in #Botany, #Ecology, #PlantScience, #Biology) recommend a site they use to keep abreast of upcoming conferences, seminars, and workshops they might otherwise miss notice of? #AskFed #Science #AcademicChatter

Do we have any Latin scholars here who can tell me what the Latin word is for "carob"? Various online dictionaries are coming up blank, but I know they had carob trees and pods around then and that they were in some sort of use so there must be language for that. https://www.jstor.org/stable/4254221 #Classics #Latin #History #Carob #Food

I had a raised bed at my parents' and their home was picked to be on a drought-tolerant neighborhood garden tour. What they got the most questions on was my wine cork mulch. I wanted to reduce the risk of getting polyphagous shothole borer from free mulch (trees could look like they'd died of drought when they'd actually died of a PSB infestation) and the local reuse places had some wine corks, which would not have that risk. #Gardening #Bloomscrolling
