Oh man, never using booking.com again — showed up for a 9-night stay and the building owner knew nothing about it. Fake host posting. Customer service has not been very helpful. I got the bare minimum refund. But after hours of being on hold over various calls, they are not offering any meaningful help with the fact that now all lodgings are double or triple price from what I had booked nor really acknowledge they’ve caused this situation. They offered to pay the difference for one other posti...

I just released Déjà Dup Backups 50.2 🎉 It’s got some nice bug fixes, notably around overwriting files during a Duplicity restore and speeding up Restic verification steps. https://flathub.org/apps/org.gnome.DejaDup #DejaDup #Backups #Gnome #AppDev

As an American with a Brazilian spouse, there are plenty of cultural differences. One that we have negotiated over time is the best way to play #Canasta. So we've taken our favorite bits of each version and combined them into what we call International Canasta. It takes a lot from the Brazilian version (runs! dead hands! limits on wilds!) but adds more competition over the discard pile (my favorite bit of US Canasta) and also makes games a little shorter. If anyone is interested, here'...

While GNOME 50 is rightfully being celebrated today, it reminded me that I never posted about Déjà Dup 50. No big changes there, just a nice collection of bug fixes. But there are some exciting bits of news in Debian/Ubuntu land: Debian finally got the package back in “testing” (it had been blocked by some old Rclone security issues) and Ubuntu finally got Restic into main and switched the default backend to Restic. So stating with Ubuntu 26.04 there will be a gradual uptick in Restic backups...

https://wikigacha.com/ is very cute - it turns Wikipedia pages into a collectible cards. I wish there were 10% more actual game you could do with it - as it is now, raid fights are the big challenge (and they are challenging). But regardless, it’s a very chill way to see random Wikipedia pages and click through to interesting ones. #Wikipedia

Welp, I quit my job. My department was too all-in on LLMs and I just couldn’t stomach it anymore. I’ve got a gig for a few months fixing bugs in Inkscape, which is exciting! But after that, I dunno what’s next. Sounds like a terrible time to be an unemployed software engineer out there. 😑 Maybe a career change is in order.
