  Whoever thought that giving #Eclipse two systems for installing and updating components (the Eclipse Marketplace and the Software Update Sites) was in any way a good idea should be taken out back and shot. Then revived, waterboarded, and shot again. It's fine to have the store as a idiot-GUI for discovering and installing extensions, but for all that is good and holy (which explicitly excludes Eclipse for aforementioned reasons), make "Check for Updates" actually check for update...

  Yes, but that's not the point. The over-reporting will invoke the availability heuristic and recency bias to make people think they are much more likely to die from murder or terror attacks than from being fat. This leads to concrete politics where large minorities on each side put an inordinate amount of energy into (discussing) banning brown people or guns, where they should probably focus on regulating processed foods and advertising candy as food to children.
