Joel :casio: :blobcatderpy: 🇲🇽 (@joel@fosstodon.org) Saw this on my Mastodon/GotoSocial: I just wanted to make some #pixelart and this little #88x31 button came out :blobcatderpy: Edit: You can now find it at my website’s footer if you wanna snatch it up!

Fediverse is Continuing, Growing, and Strong It seems the fediverse is continuing and growing again. https://fediverse.observer/stats&months=50 Total users are huge now. There are many websites out there that pull data from the fediverse. So take that with a grain of salt. But anecdotally I am seeing a small rise in people using the various platforms as each get more mature and servers somewhat stabilize.

An article dispelling myths about W Social, the new European platform that aims to rival X: it is a fork of Bluesky that shares many similarities with Eurosky and requires government ID to sign up.

What has brought you joy? Companion to the last question :)

Honestly it just looks a bit different. Same community and people (one of the benefits of the fediverse). I remember it was a fork of another project (I want to say Kbin but im not sure).

In some areas, it is still expensive, but yeah its basically back to pre-COVID-ish prices. Mostly because theres a lot more people with chickens.

We should commission the individual behind !unix_surrealism@lemmy.sdf.org for a sequel :D. I remember the comic being much larger than I expected back in the day.

Peertube. You are already on the fediverse. So you know how it is. Its very much in the beginning phases still. And nitch. Although theres a ton of good videos out there. Just search by top and subscribe to who you like.

In december 2025, the author and activist Cory Doctorow @pluralistic@mamot.fr did a speech at the 39C3 called “post-American, enshittification-resistant internet” He talks about AI, internet enshitification, anti-circumvention law. guilotine few technofascists…but he also talks about alliance and hope ! ✊ Here is the transcript : https://pluralistic.net/2026/01/01/39c3/#the-new-coalition You can watch other of video from the chaos congress communication event here : https://media.ccc....

Clicked around...looks like every corpo site out there. Im not sure what this gives other than yet another place to talk about very general subjects. I just dont see the appeal to be honest. At least with the fedi, we can chose what our joinable communities look like. This just looks like yet another "app". With a never ending feed... ![image](https://media.piefed.social/posts/sn/ap/snapEJ9NaNWIcdi.png)

Just FYI, older Kobos are exceptionally easy to repair and modify. They used to have an SD card as the hd you could remove and do all sorts of cool things with. They also published the version of the linux kernel they used and any modifications they (Kobo) devs had to do to get things working. It was awesome for a time. Its more locked down now... :( I used to play around with https://quill-os.org/ and it worked decently well on kobo until the newer versions started to crack down on the mod s...

Shadow bans. My wife tried to post a bunch on art related communities only to have her account banned without us knowing. She does oil paintings and other such art pieces. You had to have a history before you could post...which no one was willing to tell her. So her account got shadow banned. She gave up after a while on reddit. I dont blame her. I hope we never get so petty.

An old pop os system for everyday use. An old debian server for most self hosting. Onion os for my miyoo mini plus retro game console. And a mess of things all over the house.

I would pay for a company to come out with one of these pre-loaded onto a Fairphone. Seriously.

Ive played around with it. Its VERY hard to set up...but it actually does what it says better than other platforms in the lora space. Also its not being updated anymore unfortunately. Its a monumental achievement for any one person to make. Im hoping the community can take a look at some point. With HaLow coming together, it would be cool if we get integration at some point.

In my local city, people die every year getting ran over on a bike. I knew a dr who didnt make it. I got close-lined off my bike once around 2017. Its part of the gang initiation to send someone to the hospital. I have a dent in my nose because of it. Its MUCH more dangerous in my area than most places though.

ICE has used Mobile Fortify to identify immigrants and citizens alike over 100,000 times, by one estimate. It wasn’t built to work like that—and only got approved after DHS abandoned its own privacy rules.
