https://mastodon.social/@gnomon/117278585338935160 This is a very cool observation that you can find a lot of information about changes to time zones from the tzdb project's commit log and mailing list.

If I had the power I would make everyone in a position of power in the tech industry go on a leave of absence until they had read the mythical man month at least 10 times.

It really feels like the new season of Ted Lasso was written by two completely different set of writers, and for some reason they forgot half the plots they set up in the first episode until after halfway through the season.

Seems like I'm pretty alone in this among online trek fans but I'm pretty ok with this season of snw being kinda dumb to be honest. It's not very tng, but I do think it's pretty close to a more silver age of sf sensibility that tos exemplified pretty well and that's the world the show is inevitably moving towards. I think it makes sense to bridge the tonal gap between "everyone scowls all the time" discovery and "sometimes someon...

I think it's really funny how all the trailers before the transformers 40th anniversary theatrical rerelease were for kids movies. Even funnier though is that almost every one of those trailers had a needle drop on a 40ish year old song.

There's a very particular kind of bike nimby that seems weirdly common where they seem to believe that people on bikes do not exist other than when they're on their bikes, and they're particularly obsessed with the idea that bikes should require paid licenses. I saw someone say that they think the literal only tax cyclists pay is gst on their bikes. Apparently according to this person they don't live anywhere or buy groceries or make income or anything. They jus...

Weird thing about me as a retro tech collector, I will probably never remove these blockbuster stickers from this cartridge. Not because doing so might damage something on the cart itself but because they're part of the story and history of the cartridge and I like keeping that. #retrogaming

Something that I'm realizing as I bike a lot more this year is that I think I pretty much value good bike *crossings* over a lot of bike *lanes*. I feel like these get conflated into one project a lot, but honestly intersections scare me more than side by side traffic.

Lmao matchbox car movie. Mattel really learned all the wrong lessons from The Barbie Movie. Like, impressively so.

Gonna go to a local trans-people swim night put on by pflag tomorrow night. I miss swimming regularly, and Swimming While Trans is just like.. this whole complicated thing. So this should be nice.

Hey people who know Montreal, if you were gonna stay in Montreal with your partner for a fall weekend, and you'd mostly be intending to get around by transit, where in the city (that there are hotels) do you think would be a good place to stay? Assume we're mostly interested in foodie kinds of things, as well as like.. Nice places to walk around outside. We'd consider renting bikes too. Not so much outright full on tourist traps. Boosts welcome! #montreal

My central computing conspiracy theory is that "general computing for normal people" was largely a solved problem by the 90s, through things like Excel, visual basic (and HyperCard before it), Flash, and comprehensible html (along with web design tools that were deeply flawed but extremely usable like Front Page and Dreamweaver), and the industry has spent every year since ripping us farther and farther away from it by forcing effective software development to happen only in enterprise...

https://tickets.fringetheatre.ca/ The physical guide (my preferred way to browse) doesn't come out until the 29th, but Edmonton Fringe show listings are up on the website now! If you go to some shows I might be the one scanning your ticket! :) #yegfringe #yeg

The only thing worse than bad, unvetted, ai subtitles is bad, unvetted, ai subtitles that have been burned into the video itself.

Kind of funny to be watching a movie set in Red Deer and get taken out of it for a minute because they get takeout from a Chinese restaurant and you can see that the sign on the outside is The Lingnan.

I think one of the most hilarious things about the American psyche, such as anything like that exists, is the inexplicable belief in a "timeline for war". Like killing people is a thing you can do on a neat little schedule, where the other side just does exactly what you predict they'll do, which is for some reason always "give up and surrender" or "go so crazy that they can't effectively fight back." The media inevitably d...
