I hope everybody is aware that, whatever they turn out to be, these security guarantees for #Ukraine are horseshit. They are dependent on a ceasefire or a peace agreement which will never happen. Several guarantees should be enforced right now - chiefly that Ukraine's skies should be declared closed. Any violation will involve NATO shooting down Russian missiles and aircraft.

A #ZackPolanski led #GreenParty government would be a disaster. He is #Corbyn in disguise. He knows not to say he would take us out of #NATO Instead he wants to reform it into a ‘peace and diplomacy’ organisation and will persuade #Putin to give up #nuclear weapons while we disarm. For the last 25 years we have disarmed ourselves, reduced our armies to nothing and turned a diplomatic blind eye to #Russian aggression. That’s why Putin invaded and we are on the brink of European war

@sean yes green energy is one of the many prongs of attack against corrupt petrostates. But it doesn’t have to be accompanied by disarming ourselves in the hope that aggressive imperialists will follow suit. The last 25 years has been a failed experiment in peace and diplomacy. ‘Freedom must be better armed than tyranny’ is a maxim that will always apply.

@sean It was in this Sky News interview: https://youtu.be/RhD2ZuKrXPg?t=282 He talks about a NATO without nuclear weapons and trying to form an alternative to NATO based on ‘peace and diplomacy’ Unless he specifically states that this alternative to NATO must be based on mass production of long range weapons and drone tech, this is code for being against arms manufacturing, and therefore disarming Europe. He’s just not saying it expilicitly as he knows it will lose votes

@Broadfork@mastodon.green If he’s going to continue the fight against fascism we need to hear him explicitly advocate for massive scaling up of weapons production. It doesn’t have to be a choice between Greens and Reform. If the left splinters between Your Party, Labour, Lb Dems and the Greens, Reform will win. On the left we will never have the luxury of voting for who we want until we introduce the French 2-round system

@sean yes and I could be wrong - he may be not publicly declaring his support for increase in weapons production because he thinks it will alienate core green voters. Given the naivety of his stance on nuclear weapons though I think it’s unlikely. I wish that Labour was implementing more radical policies on housing and the cost of living, but they are doing a reasonable job on supporting Ukraine so I will vote for them anyway.

I don’t wanna hear a peep from Bastani, Jones, Novara Media, The Canary etc. about #Venezuela Based on their statements about #Putin #NATO and #Ukraine the only consistent stance for them to take would be one of ambivalence, since #Trump is only concerned with his ‘sphere of influence’ as per Putin You cannot have it both ways Anti-#imperialism isn’t pick and choose

One of the more ridiculous points I’ve heard made is that we could have better relations with #Russia if we’d allowed them to join #NATO in the early 2000s If you wanna know how allowing a large, corrupt authoritarian state to join NATO would've turned out, just look at what’s happening with #Trump and #Greenland right now #Ukraine #Putin

The fact that that #Chomsky has been caught up in the whole #Epstein thing kinda feels like a form of poetic justice. As a supposed person of the left, you can’t get away with #genocide denial and apologism for non-western fascists without some kind of comeuppance It would just be nice if commentators like Mehdi Hassan would acknowledge this instead of doing a reverse-MAGA ‘Chomsky isn’t perfect’
