Regarding my last toot, a good family friend who was young, healthy, and had no risk factors for complications caught the flu last winter and ended up being hospitalized with pneumonia from it and then needed to be hospitalized again due to another secondary infection. He was not vaccinated, and his recovery was painfully long and slow. We are so grateful that he’s still with us and doing well now. Influenza is nothing to mess around with no matter who you are. #Influenza #Vaccines

RE: https://mas.to/@RikerGoogling/117344228580146279 I think it would fix a leather couch. What do you all think?

    1) Having enough time for several long walks over the weekend. 2) Drinking cold, crisp water after a walk. 3) Seeing dozens of cute dogs who were out on walks with their humans this weekend. #3GoodThings #Walking #Fitness @3goodthings@fedigroups.social @fittogether@fedigroups.social

I’m all stocked up on disposable face masks again. It was a pleasant surprise to me to see how much wearing a mask helps on days when the pollen or pollution counts are high, too. They’re not only for disease prevention. I would have started wearing them decades ago if I had known they were helpful in those other situations, too. #Masks #AirQuality #Allergies

Waiting in long lines to visit new restaurants, shops, or businesses is something I’ve never understood, although many folks in Toronto don’t feel the same way. It’s one thing if it’s for a special event or something that is only available for a brief period of time, but if I can wait a week or two and have no lineup when I show up I will be choosing that option every time. What’s something lighthearted about the culture or country you live in that you don’t understand?

The idea for this poll came from a recent conversation with my spouse. In the past, they’ve generally been able to tell when someone has a crush on them, but as a friendly person myself I have a history of thinking others are just being friendly and sociable, too. Sometimes I realized what was actually happening years later. 😂 Can you tell when someone has a crush on you? Boosts are warmly welcomed. #Crush #Poll #AskFedi

Which books do you wish would be made into tv shows or films? My vote goes to “The Deep” by Rivers Solomon. It’s the best mermaid story I’ve ever read, and the plot twists in it would look amazing on the big or small screen. #Books #Television #Film #AskFedi #Fantasy @bookstodon@fedigroups.social

Today I finished reading Brideen by Kathleen McDonnell, a historical fiction novel about survivors of the Irish potato famine based on the life of one of the author’s ancestors. It was a good story, and I liked the reasonable conjectures the author made when real historical documents could only go so far in sharing what actually occurred. #Books #HistoricalFiction #Ireland #History #Fiction #Immigrants @bookstodon@fedigroups.social

I was planning to go to a coffee shop today, but most of the elevators in my apartment building aren’t working and the wait times for the last functional one are long. Maybe next time. If you’re planning a similar excursion, may you have better luck on this quiet Sunday! ☕️🧁 #Food #Today

Small businesses, please stop using corporate social media as your only online presence. I’d happily visit a website that looks like it was designed in the 1990s if it meant I could actually scroll down and see your address, hours of operation, etc. It doesn’t have to be pretty, just functional. It would be really helpful if you also included common allergens for your food and drinks (if relevant) and how accessible your location is for disabled folks. #Business #Disability

When I first moved up to Canada, it took me a while to get used to measuring various food items in grams or kilograms. Now I can visualize what 500 or 1000 grams of something looks like, but it feels weird to picture them in ounces or pounds. 😄 #Canada #Measurements
