The Chinese name for today's #KungFuSat film is 江湖情, using the phrase 江湖 (literally "rivers [and] lakes") (jiānghú in Mandarin, gong1 wu4 in Cantonese). Originally a phrase implying a place secluded from the mainstream world, it came to be used other ways, often a mythological setting for stories of martial arts heroes or living the martial arts lifestyle (either heroes or bandits), and later, the modern underworld of gangsters. Many, many #KungFuSat films are set in the world of...

#TIL Al Lewis (Grandpa Munster in The Munsters, Leo Schnauser in Car 54, Where Are You?) presented a series of VHS releases of horror & scifi movies, mostly public domain & several shown in the #Monsterdon watch party, from Amvest Video. Him doing a brief intro & outro, not movie-specific (he pauses while an off-screen "Igor" says the name of the film), while appearing very "Grandpa Munster"-esque. Although he actually did it as "Grampa" (not Grandpa Mu...

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services I'd like to be able to follow hashtags without seeing posts in languages I don't understand that also use those hashtags. #Mastodon language settings don't help with that & after having a timeline 30-35% in languages I don't know, I've ended up muting hundreds (maybe thousands now) of accounts. In fact, I've started looking at my alt account's timeline (exquisite.social) first because Mastodon's lack of hashtag migrati...

Liveblog, the new Mastodon interface designed for live events e.g. watch parties, faced the acid test of #Monsterdon (+ #MonsterMiru) last night... & survived! Let me post without having to worry about entering multiple hashtags every time (Mastodon web's capricious hashtag autocomplete is the most frustrating "feature" for me during watch parties)It auto-refreshed & kept up with the flow; maybe not as instant as plain Mastodon, Liveblog perhaps every 1-3 seconds,...
