Dat komt dat ze over de gehele breedte niet in staat blijken mee te denken met de organisatie, maar enkel en alleen nee verkopen en zichzelf als uiterste macht zien. 📚 I just finished reading Consider Phlebas: A Culture Novel by Iain M. Banks This series was recommend to me, because I was complaining about all Science Fiction nowadays seemed distinctly distopian. Well, this actually includes an utopian society. The book has a lot of humor and great world building. The action is constant, and there are no boring bits in it. My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 stars) https://hayobethlehem.nl/library/book/consider-phlebas-a-culture-novel #BookReview #Books #Reading #Fict...

📚 I just finished reading The Coming of Neo-Feudalism: A Warning to the Global Middle Class by Joel Kotkin What an absolutely godawful book. Kotkin has obviously no interest or any knowledge of the European feudal societies of medieval times. He uses this lack of knowledge to shoehorn his theory into. It just doesn't work. Yes, big tech entrepreneurs are rich arseholes. That has nothing to do with how feudalism worked. Fuck off, Kotkin. My rating: ⭐ (1/5 stars) https://hayobethlehem.nl/li...

Is it just me, or are most of the #indieweb standards unbelievably convoluted? It seems you want simple ways to connect websites. This is so overcomplicated, and unbecoming of personal websites. #indieweb #askfedi #personalwebsite #smallweb

📚 I just finished reading Developmental Psychology in Action by Clare Wood, Karen Littleton, Kieron Sheehy Reread this old study book from the wife to see if there was anything interesting in it. But it's kind of dated, and these books focus a little bit too much on who researched what, and not so much the full story of how we diagnose certain things or why we decided to treat conditions in a certain way. My rating: ⭐⭐ (2/5 stars) https://hayobethlehem.nl/library/book/developmental-psycho...

📚 I just finished reading The Player Of Games: A Culture Novel by Iain M. Banks At the start I was a bit sceptical about the whole game theme, but the novel quickly became a very interesting tale of the Culture. 📚 My book review of Villa Maarheeze Yes, the Netherlands had its own CIA. Spies and everything. But with about 1% of the necessary budget, and you get a typically Dutch version of it. Always underfunded, more lucky than competent, the IDB was never going to be a great success. This book gives a fascinating insight into the service, it's reason for being and ultimate demise. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ https://hayobethlehem.nl/library/book/villa-maarheeze #BookReview #Books #Reading #Nonfiction #History #TheNe...

So with all those Wildberries warehouses being taken out by a single dronestrike, and then completely burning down, one has to ask. How is firesafety arranged in large warehouses? Is there compartimentalisation? How is this done in other large warehouses outside of Russia? #wildberries #warehouse #fire #askfedi

Yesterday I learned the Enterprise D actually contained an acquarium, filled with dolphins who aid in the navigation of the starship. This was referenced in a tech manual and at least one episode (the perfect mate). WTAF.

📚 My book review of The Reverse Centaur's Guide to Life After AI: How to Think About Artificial Intelligence—Before It's Too Late Cory has the amazing ability to say things in a way they completely resonate. His view on the current hype cycle and how it links to the thinking patterns of Big tech managers make a lot of sense. If only more decision makers could see beyond “oh, look, shiny” and dig a little deeper, or at the very least read this book (I've already shoved it down my man...
