I just put this in the oven. It makes two quiches. I've never made it before. I listened to a movie on my headphones and stood in the kitchen boiling sweet potatoes and carmelizing onions with rosemary and OH GAWWD the house smells like a restaurant! :D I can't wait to see what it looks like in 40 minutes! https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/239962/rosemary-sweet-potato-quiche/

Happy #Caturday! Cal was just all over me for some reason. In a perfect display of cat behavior: first I was just minding my own business and he hopped up into my lap and started purring and bumping my face. I got out my phone to take a selfie with him. After I took one good photo, he licked and then bit my nose. Then he tried to fit inside the new basket I put on my little bookshelf. When that failed, he stood and whined at me for a minute, until I told him to fork off, and then he jumped ove...

Blog post! ☕️ It was a quiet day, but somehow lots to write about. My friend visited, and we went to get food, just a bunch of little stories. Also one amazing accidental pun. https://hollie.eilloh.net/posts/zoe-visits-flora-over-fauna-bloodthirsty-corgi #Blaugust #Blaugust2026

Both our (senior) doggos have daily meds they take, and so they both need to come in twice a year to get a check-up. I just took this photo of them. This image is so much their personalities. Zoe: I MIGHT GET A BISCUIT SOON!! Finn: Okay I need you to listen. I have quietly ascertained the location of four techs and two exits. I think if we create a diversion in the north corridor we have a chance of making it out of here alive. I know you’ve been married to this guy for awhile but look, I n...

Goodbye everyone. I went to the river and joined this gang of dinosaurs. They were just a little too persuasive. Anyway we’re plotting some ancient, feathery chaos. Can’t talk about it now but you’ll know it when you see it. Beak seeing ya. #birds #birbs #ducks

My regular reminder that ThriftBooks(.com) is a thing, and they are still, from what I understand, a really good company. I've been buying from them for years and love their prices and customer service. Shipping speed is good too! I also love how I can get hardbacks that come from libraries. It reminds me of that freshly discovered joy as a kid, where you realize you can TAKE THE BOOKS HOME. :) It's also nice to feel like you're giving them an extra life after they've retired f...

We're going on a little family holiday soon and Jupes wanted a new journal to write/art in for the trip. I made them this last night, they picked the colors. Then I made myself one. Then I drew Jupiter's book inside my book. Jupes said this is journal-ception. French stitch is still my favorite by far. Coptic is basically dead to me, lol. #BookBinding #BookMaking #watercolors #watercolours #ArtJournal

My Dad sent me this, it's my Aunt and Uncle on their boat, the Barnestormer, heading to the race. I assume from Dad's comment "headed to victory" that they won, which is not uncommon. They have been racing for ...55 years? I have no interest in racing, I'm basically a hobbit on my boat, I used to take her out and just make tea and sit around waiting for wind to appear. World's Laziest Sailor. The fastest I'd move was to get out of other peoples' way, lol. I co...

Last night's journaling was a youtube video at 12:07 am (just _try_ to pull me away from my desk when I start painting, I dare ya) from a guy talking about chronic illness, and urging one to remember that what you focus on all day begins to become your life. I really liked this. I've been experiencing some much better days lately, and there's been this wild crack into my world where light comes in, where I'm aware that I have space to think about ENTIRE OTHER THINGS than the pain...

Jupiter: I have to make a Linked In account for this communications class Me: Seriously? Jupiter: I hate this. I'm supposed to select my industry? They don't list College Student as an industry Me: Do they have one for Sarcastic Retorts Jupiter: Wait! It's only worth ten points! Can I just write EAT SHIT in this text box? Me: 🤔 Jupiter: Okay. I really don't want to do this. I'm taking the L. I'd rather lose the points. Jupes wrote on the assignment (and gave me...

We had drinks on the porch tonight, at my neighbor's house, I love this weekly summer tradition. She started "introverts hour" just for me, so I could come a half hour early and not feel socially overwhelmed. <3 We had gin and tonics with this delicious gin from a gorgeous bottle. Neighbor has ceramic cups with tiny koi in the bottom. I must now begin studying ceramics so that I can make an entire set of dishes with koi swimming in the bottom. Obviously. At one point someone p...

Everyone is always saying how the Fediverse is a great place to share your weird niche interests, so..... Hi all, I love going barefoot and years ago I got really into barefoot shoes and how to develop strong feet. Here's a page with some of my favorite shoe reviews, and a list of manufacturers. This page will be updated regularly as I discover new companies and have new thoughts about the shoes I try. https://satellite.eilloh.net/barefootshoes #shoes #barefoot #barefootshoes

We changed the layout of my office so that I'm sitting inches away from the window (I should probably care more about skin cancer at my advanced middle age). The crows keep flying by the house and yelling, like HELLO WE CAN SEE YOU, YOU'RE RIGHT THERE Time to go throw peanuts....

In other nice Saturday morning porch news, while I was feeding the crows, I got to have this exchange with my neighbor who was in his backyard across the street: Him: NICE DRESS! Me: THANK YOU, I MADE IT! Him: GOOD POCKETS! Okay you can tell a dress is good when your neighbor yells about the pockets from a couple hundred feet away. I'm going to enjoy the good feelings this gives me, really soak it up, to save up some mana for later, when people will be blowing off fireworks for thre...

The response to "I'm realizing and coming to grips with some interesting gender feelings," from cis straight RL friends vs. queer/trans RL friends is, just, way wider of a gap than I was expecting. Queer friends respond with curiosity. They are encouraging of the journey, wherever it may lead, i.e. I don't get the feeling they're invested in the outcome. If I come back in six months and say, "Nope, I've been trying things on and I think I'm definitely cis,&qu...

I did a thing! We went out for dinner and I was tired but it was okay (we sat outside, on BENCHES, and somehow I wasn't in terrible pain) and then everyone wanted to walk a few blocks away and get a treat and I DID IT, I TOTALLY DID IT, and my hips were stiff but I wasn't in miles of pain like I had been! And now we're home and I'm glowing.

How our family spends an evening, everyone taking the RAADS-R (autism inventory!) and then comparing scores. We did this last night and it was kind of a blast, honestly. :) (https://) embrace-autism.com/raads-r/ And then if that's fun, you can take the CAT-Q to see how much you mask/camouflage. (https://) embrace-autism.com/cat-q/ That one in particular was extremely disconcerting. I couldn't stop the nervous laughter as I was taking it, and Jupes would want me to read off all the...

Sewing friends, Costco is selling the Singer Heavy Duty machine for $179.99, which is a great price. This is a really nice general purpose machine for starting your sewing hobby! It'll make crafts, clothes, bags, quilts, it's a good little tank. - It can easily handle things like denim or canvas, two fabrics a lot of beginning sewists using for things like bags and totes - It has a strong motor and with regular maintenance will last a long time (I wish I'd kept mine!) - Specialty...

My friend Jaime, who recently wrote The Complete Guide for College Transfers, has been doing podcast interviews for the book with different educational groups (it's so cool!), and she talked up my story in one of them today. She texted me just now about it. I'm beaming. :) Finishing my degree at 50 was definitely the highlight of that year! If I can get myself well enough, I might try for an MA. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/highered-transferstudents-studentsuccess-ugcPost-74...

I just finished watching Conclave. Thankfully the ending hadn't been spoiled for me (please don't spoil it in the comments), I liked it a lot. On another note entirely, it was darkly amusing how often their costumes reminded me of the red dresses in The Handmaid's Tale.
