Was hoping to attend some #Wikimania sessions virtually, but I'm 10 hours behind here in San Francisco so unlikely. Wish I'd gotten a scholarship so I could be there in person, but at least I'm missing the heat wave. https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2026:Wikimania

Happy to see Britta Gustafson aka Dreamyshade get a Wikimedian of the Year Laureate award at #Wikimania. I took the photo of her that was featured on the screen! https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bay_Area_WikiSalon_Feb_2017_20170222-2065.jpg

RE: https://mastodon.social/@404mediaco/116970365105957725 On the one hand, I'm annoyed that as a #Patreon creator I'm reading important announcements from them on @404mediaco before I hear it from the platform itself. On the other hand, this is another confirmation that my subscription to 404 Media is well worth the money.

The @wikimediafoundation@wikimedia.social responded today to US staff's request for #union recognition. Reaction from editors thus far are that it reads like classic union busting rhetoric. https://wikimediafoundation.org/news/2026/07/27/statement-cwa-recognition-request/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(WMF)#Recent_questions_about_the_Foundation_and_US_unionization_request #Wikipedia

@molly0xfff@hachyderm.io This is part of why I consider my volunteer editing on #Wikipedia to be the most important job of my life. An accurate record of the atrocities of this administration must be preserved.

I'm feeling upset about this statement in today's @medium newsletter: "Looked at properly, the AI era is turning *everyone* into a writer." I've started drafting a rebuttal, but just sharing this for now to see how others feel about it. https://medium.com/blog/ai-is-making-us-all-writers-395285833741 #AI #writing

Really embarrassing when folks using #AI bots to write clearly don't even look at the output. Which is longer than the added content itself, in the case of this #Wikipedia edit.

It's weird and annoying getting misgendered as female after over 12 years on T, with my (intentional) beard stubble and obvious male pattern baldness. Since I don't bind my breasts, I'm wondering if some people think that I'm a trans woman and are trying to be polite? (1/3)

What is a reasonable amount of time to wait for a response to a work-related e-mail? By "work-related" I don't mean an email sent to a current co-worker necessarily, but an email sent in the context of what one does for work, paid or volunteer, and requesting a response.

At least I get to enjoy watching the medal ceremony on the venue feed, even with no American winners, as is the case in today's pair skating competition. All of the medalists - 🥉 Germany, 🥈 Georgia, and 🥇 Japan - embraced their fellow competitors as soon as they skated out to the podium, which certainly didn't happen at the ice dancing ceremony, where the American silver medalists looked annoyed. Also, the stuffed animals given to the medalists are really cute ❤️ https://www.nbcolympi...

I'm reminded of a scene from the 2011 #BlackMirror episode "Fifteen Million Merits", where you have to pay to skip #ads on the giant, always-on screen in your quarters. If you can't afford the fee and close your eyes or look away, the screen detects that and plays a really unpleasant noise until you watch the ad again. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifteen_Million_Merits
