I always forget how badly people can do their job and still succeed. It's only us weirdos who obsess over doing our best and learning to do better who didn't get the memo.

Got through the day without stabbing my co-worker with a fork. Tomorrow is another day however. Who can say what might happen.

Just spent a week travelling with someone who is convinced that their life would have been different and better if only yadda yadda yadda. It's illuminating for me because I can see the ways I too have slipped into that way of thinking at various times in my life. Illuminating also because often we forget that our troubles are not the only troubles. We look at other folks and see their good fortune, and maybe don't see the bad fortune they endured. But in this case, I just felt very sa...

Doesn't really feel like we're "living in the future". Feels more like the future blew up on the launch pad.

There's this dude on YouTube who lives in the same city as me and at one point I wanted to reach out and invite him for coffee and a chat... but he keeps posting videos with dreadful AI generated thumbnails and now I just cannot imagine.

AI isn't taking your job, it's taking the funding for your job and leaving a hot mess for understaffed units to deal with.

Finally decided to contact Rode about an intermittent issue with one of their mics I've been having for a long time. I did a recording with duplicate mics, one worked fine but the Rode did not. I sent them the recording. The kid handling the support request appears unable to work out that a single file can have multiple tracks, and he's only listening to track 1 and says there's no problem here. I am just so fkn sick and tired of my time being wasted by people who get paid to turn...

I decided not to be so cranky this afternoon so I've eaten a whole bag of candy and will soon fall into a half-coma which should take the edge off things nicely.

The golden light was coming through the windows and I resented having to share my attention with someone else instead of just wander about taking photos! Anyhoo, my second colour photo in 24 hours. I'm out of control this week. #Melbourne #Naarm #Photography #Coffee #NotMono https://social.ewenbell.com/objects/8832ca80-d37b-4db9-b508-a595caf5aa52

Sharing a few of the photos that didn't make it into the zine for July. Have spent most of the day feeling straight up angry about various situations right now, and need to focus on things that nourish instead. #Melbourne #Naarm #Photography https://social.ewenbell.com/notice/B8QEHKYaQR7v9UleM4

"A Long Chat About Learning The Art of Photography" https://youtu.be/x480fxJoFlw Several weeks back I asked for thoughts on what people wished they understood a little earlier in their photography journey. Some of that proved very useful. Some of it was in a different direction to my brain at the time. Here's the final outcome of that! I was working on a video idea, and now that video exists. It's a long chat, so maybe better to watch on the weekend with a cup of tea. It'...

Quick question for analogue and manual focus fans out there... What do you think AF schmuckos like me fail to understand when it comes to the joy of shooting manual? I'm road testing a little 50mm lens this week, and observing in real-time how AF vs MF changes the way my brain thinks about photography. I bet there's a few folks around here who have been shooting MF for a long time and are wondering why I have been soooo slow to figure this out :) #Photography #EwenTube

I want to share some numbers. My life is numbers at the moment. I made this video over recent weeks. I gave it time to distil. It's a long one. Lots of scripting to make sure I had a direction on paper that I could commit to. Then record, and a very very long edit process. Maybe five days of work all up... https://social.ewenbell.com/notice/B8egNizS0tXdb7bqLo The number is 5 days. In its second day in the wild, it' cleared 400 views and a total watch time of about 80 hours. 1/

Should come as no surprise that the July photo zine is a monochrome affair. It's just my mood this winter. Most cities look better in B+W, and Melbourne comes up a treat. All that winter light making long shadows. ewenbell.com/zine New edition of the zine is on the website now, ready to download. No trackers or signup etc. If you like it, share it :) Have a great weekend everyone. #Photography #PhotoZine #Melbourne #Monochrome #Zine #CameraNotIncluded

It's the year 2026 and the ABC is still pulling this shit. I do not give a rats arse if a "small business" wants to complain about paying a livable income to their staff. If they cannot do this, they have no place running a business. There is no special right to make money while other people can't afford to pay their rent or buy food. When you own the business you shouldn't simply expect to make money regardless of how you treat humans. This crap makes me really cranky...

Apologies I haven't been sharing much in the way of photos lately. My brain has been dunked in acid wash for the last few weeks while I plod through a couple of very large projects. Having exhausted myself by digging myself into a ditch, has been hard to find the energy to try digging out again. I have been out to shoot a few photos, but then lacking the energy to edit them once I'm home. Sometimes we just need a break from the camera. Anyhoo, here's a pigeon. The most successful s...

@davidho@mastodon.world Impacts such as these are invisible to most Americans. Science in general was already invisible. But the impact on technology and education in America will last for generations. Much harder to build than destroy.

I just ordered a small number of stepping rings and filters to compliment my existing chaos of stepping rings and filters. When they finally arrive in the distant future I will have no recollection of why I ordered these particular stepping rings, or filters.
