Shout out to @kagihq@mastodon.social for having an explicit "SLOP STOP" reporting option in their site controls in search results.

Ok I am excited! But you can really tell that Prime Video is run by SOULLESS CORPORATE DRONES who have no sense of art or creativity because the OFFICIAL TRAILER ends with barely a beat & then cuts to the dumbest perky music, no doubt mandated by some vacuous marketing suit. https://youtu.be/0Dr8I_RyRCg?si=RTBSobTTlgC8cxmF

Picked up an xteink x3, dropped some custom firmware on it (crosspoint, excellent) and pointed it at my Calibre Web home server. Up and running in 15 min with full sync to my full library of titles, love it.

Just had an author contact me a decade after the photoshoot to make sure that my credit on their author's photo was current. In an era of rampant disregard for creative output, it was a nice courtesy.

Climbed a cold war era warning siren tower today, one of Seattle's Phinney Ridge landmarks (you can see the bulk of the massive decommissioned siren above). Installed a solar #meshcore node on it for our emergency/disaster-response hub next door. #hamradio

Not wanting “algorithms” on mastodon’s feed because TWTR uses coersive algorithms is like not wanting to use any math because capitalism uses math. Stop conflating bad, manipulative use of algorithms w/the general use of (open/visible) algorithms for personal control over data you see. Chronological display IS AN ALGORITHM. Mastodon’s feed ISN’T JUST CHRONOLOGY (it has filters, algos re boost freq, etc). Mastodon’s feed could be a LOT better. I WANT an algorithmic view I can adjust! tiny 🧵

When did Apple start listing Apple Invites, a service that literally nobody I know has ever used, in their iCloud+ feature list? Why is it an iCloud+ feature at all and not just a free thing? Give us "turn off liquid glass" as an iCloud+ service, Apple, and you'll double subscribers overnight.

I like this power supply for use with my #hamradio equipment but the fan was SO LOUD. Solution, as always, is to solder in a Noctua.

My normal anxiety response is "prepare" so I just dropped some radios in a metal tin (honestly useless here in Seattle, we're far to close to Targets for that to be truly useful) and rebuilt my antenna switching to enable my TM-71 #hamradio to pass through my duplexer :/

Bad news: Instead of toner I received a single shoe. Good news: I have the shoe you are missing. Hit me up.

Testing some #hamradio antennas I received reveals the two most common antenna types: * (1st photo) common UHF tuning * (2nd photo) common "contacting Cthulhu via a dimension of pure madness" tuning

Was using JUST an iPad for quite a while to remote in a distant member of the Mothership group that's been campaigning for over a year (!) but decided to increase video size and camera quality. Realized the little vesa mount could do double duty as an iPad support.

The cat just went over to the HomePod mini on my desk, meowed at it, and Siri said "sure here is some music for you" and the cat perched on the window sill listening to Garbage and Elliott Smith. I just want to know how long this has been going on.

Some of the best trips I took while teaching at the Thai uni were those where I'd pick up my meager gov't paycheck, pay expenses, count the few remaining satang (so few) & take the cheapest train ride through the countryside to sit and read something like Primo Levi or Anthony Burgess at a ramshackle riverside bungalow. I miss that feeling of quiet escape & being cut off. The Third Class Carriage (to Kanchanaburi from Nakhon Pathom). Shot on a much loved Canon....

The number of folks I meet who "work in tech" but do not UNDERSTAND technology is approaching majority. They know corporate tech structures and a smattering of systems. Same w/designers who don't design, just decorate (looking at you liquid glass). Simulacra without meaning. Paging Baudrillard.

Built a prototype 1w meshcore repeater. Couldn't find my roll of polyimide tape so just used... good ol' duct tape. Not pretty, but performant.

Every time I use my #hamradio antenna mast raise/lower system I am very happy with how I ended up designing and building it. Release the long wire antenna tension, pull two bolts, mast pivots down on a center pin, new antenna gets mounted! One person, 10 minutes, done.
