Before I start nitpicking I want to be clear up front; any kind of ALT text is better than no ALT text and the fact that people are taking the time to write ALT text of any kind at all is a net positive outcome and should be celebrated and encouraged and majority of what I've personally come across has been fairly spot on. Good job everybody, keep it up However It's not a creative writing exercise, more ALT text does not automatically equate to better ALT text Thank you for re...

@ownohmanny Hi Own, I'm Dad. I don't drink, can interact and play with my daughter just fine. That said, I do catch myself kind of auto-piloting now and again to how my own dad (doesn't drink) was with me, which was basically absolute bare minimum. Wasn't a bad dad at all, did everything he needed to but not a whole lot else. No great memories of bonding or interacting with my dad. Takes active effort to break that generational cycle. We are not a neurotypical fa...

Forgive me if this is a silly question but...why aren't all the new houses being built fitted with solar panels by default? Surely that would just be the norm at this point?

Maybe I'm fuckin' dense (entirely possible) but why on earth would you limit the length of a password? The HSE medical card website does not allow for passwords longer than 20 characters, and no MFA either to top it off Like...c'mon... The same HSE that suffered a complete system-wide shutdown, data breach and ransomware attack only 5 years ago??

Follow the sequence W -> X Sure, that's a bit of fun based on absolutely nothing other than letters of the alphabet, but I feel like it's still a valid observation (Were they intentionally trying to mimic X by going with the name W? Why? X isn't even the thing people want(ed), people want(ed) Twitter. A more apt name surely would have been something more akin to Twitter - like Natter?)

@protonprivacy genuine question - why doesn't Proton push it's presence on Mastodon in the likes of newsletters etc.? No Mastodon icon in the footer, and users are being explicitly pointed toward X instead

Dark Mode is objectively better than light mode because it requires less resources to render on OLEDs making it better for the environment. If your product or platform or app or whatever does not ship with a Dark Mode option, shame on you While we're on the topic; Dark Mode should be default in all cases, not the other way around

I'm obviously not involved in policy/legislation/planning etc. but I hope to fuck we learn a few lessons as a country after this protest or the whole ordeal will have had no meaningful outcome at all 1) Renewable energy infrastructure is a necessity - it only took 4/5 DAYS to bring the country to it's knees. That's an Achilles Heel that simply can't be exploited again. 2) To lessen the impact a protest like this has on societies ability to function, reduce relia...

I'm so frustrated and tired I can't even articulate my thoughts properly with regard to what's going on right now Too much noise, not enough critical thought happening It all comes back around to social media algorithms, engagement/rage bait, and echo chambers that nobody is safe from. Good rational people get sucked into it and find like minded people with the same misguided and misinformed beliefs and opinions which get normalised and amplified and spread like wildfir...

RE: https://mastodon.ie/@ccferrie/116407638837677583 Please read this article. This is why people in my generation that grew up during the 2008 recession refuse to give any votes to FF/FG. This is why SF received majority of the popular vote in 2020. Not because we believe or have any faith that SF will do better but because the status quo of FF/FG over 70+ years isn't serving the best interest of the general public anymore and we desperately want/need something different
