Maybe my attention span has been degraded like everyone else’s but I tend to skip the entire intro of all YouTube videos, including the recap at the top as well as the logo splash and intro statement. I know what it is. I know who’s on. I know what it’s about. That’s why I’m watching. What is this the 1970s, with a 90 second intro trailer, that tells the entire origin story? #YouTube #Video

I’m a little worried about getting older. I’m already over just about everything. I’m not sure I can take another 20+ years of trying to understand what the fuck is going on, let alone give a shit. It’s mostly pointless and stupid, at least all the things people talk about. Life is amazing, but no one talks about that. We’re all keeping up with the Kardashians, Zendaya, or Chalamet. It’s exhausting. I do not enjoy socializing with people and making small talk, I can tell you that much.

My stepson informed me yesterday that “the government took away my healthcare.” He refuses to vote because “it’s all stupid.” I told him he was voting for the authoritarians, whether he wanted to or not, because they definitely didn’t want him to vote. Maybe he should consider voting for a government that wanted him to have healthcare. He was not moved. Now, he has no healthcare. Neither do I. #USHealthcare https://www.rawstory.com/trump-health-care-2677916716/

It’s rare that failed candidates succeed in subsequent elections the current idiot notwithstanding. I really don’t want to see Kamala Harris campaigning. I just don’t see how that’s helping. No Clintons either. New faces. Fresh blood. Younger candidates. #USPol

If I wasn’t married, I would have left America long ago. I don’t think my wife could do it. I could move anywhere and manage, I think. Even learn a new language. I’m pretty self sufficient. She has more of a support group of friends and family, plus the grandkids. I take care of me and support her. I wonder where I could go if I wanted to, and who would take me.

It’s becoming harder to find reliable sources of information on even the most basic news of the day. There are literally thousands of outlets that repackage the news, from television shows and news mags, to websites and blogs (including this one), but very few that are actually doing any first-hand reporting. Our sense of reality, once shaped by legacy media, is now subject to the biases of some schmuck with a newsletter, or a comedian’s YouTube channel. #Media #IndieWeb https://politics.davidto...

I don’t understand the point of the NFL’s preseason anymore. None of the starters are playing. It’s like televised practice of guys trying to make the team. That should be like local access TV, if at all, not a national broadcast. These tryouts shouldn’t be taking place in a stadium, and I don’t see how this gets a team ready for the season. The first game of the season is the first time the starters play. That’s insane. #NFL #Eagles

“We’ve all been trained to believe, that in this age of social media, engagement is king. If you’re not engaging, how will you possibly influence anyone? It’s all meant to be quite personal, isn’t it? A lot of back and forth, with easy access to the author, and everyone free to comment on anything they like. We leveled the playing field and now the fans are on the field pretending they can play.” #Media #IndieWeb #Writing https://politics.davidtoddmccarty.com/2026/08/29/engagement-might-be-the-...

We need a NoAI logo/badge that is simple and elegant and not simply a circle with diagonal line across the letters AI. Something human perhaps, like a fingerprint. In fact, it shouldn’t reference AI at all, it should focus on being made by humans. It’s not digital versus analog. It’s handcrafted versus artificially conjured. It should be a badge of honor. #NoAI

Here in America, where individualism is the true national religion, we demand the freedom to be different and then work tirelessly to get everyone to follow suit. We fight for our right to be uniquely homogeneous, and fight legislation that allows anyone to be different than what we’ve collectively decided is the norm. We all want to be different, just like everyone else. #Writing #Essay https://www.davidtoddmccarty.com/all-uniquely-the-same/

Labor Day is coming. Support the people who actually do the work. If you draw a paycheck from a company, you are part of the working class, and I don’t care how white you think your collar is. It’s us against the oligarchs. #Labor #BreadAndRoses #Union https://youtu.be/DwbzxemJZIc

I really enjoy that movie “Pride.” I’m sure there are people who think it’s lightweight, but I found it emotionally resonant and it said a lot of important things. I think we need to find common ground with more desperate groups that have the same goals. Get out of our silos and find others who share our values, not our politics. #Unions #Labor #Community

I’m still incredibly bothered by the ending of Man On Fire, with Denzel Washington. They both had hostages. Why didn’t they exchange the brother for the girl? Why would Creasy sacrifice himself was well? It’s not even logical. Give me the girl, or we kill your bother. What would they care about the girl? It was so stupid. Bad writing. Otherwise, good movie. #Cinema

I have been fascinated by orchestral scores from a pretty young age and I’m astounded that they still exist. It’s our century’s classic music and it’s beyond reproach. John Williams is our Mozart. Seriously, people. Someone fucking wrote this. Can you imagine that? #Music #Orchestra #Cinema https://youtu.be/s7w-IeNR9ko

People in tech really need to rethink what they believe old is. I have people in their 30s and 40s tell me that a 60 year old can’t read normal sized type or that everything has to be the maximum contrast. We’ve been using a computer since the early 80s. We had the first iPhones. WTF are you talking about. I wear glasses. I have since the 6th grade. My mother is 84 and owns an iPhone, iPad, and laptop. She has smart tvs and spends a lot of time on YouTube. The perception is way off. #tech

This feels just a little conspiratorial. You can’t wear the same shirt twice in ten days? That said, why should they be immune from that sort of questioning and where the fuck is he? If anyone else just didn’t show up to work, they’d be fired. His staff is all dependent on him remaining in office for their livelihoods. They’re just Weekend-at-Bernie’ing him. https://www.thedailybeast.com/elaine-chao-accidentally-blows-up-mitch-mcconnells-photo-timeline/

Most people don’t actually like, or even want, new. They prefer the improved. They want the thing they already know, but better. Occasionally, someone will change the game with something revolutionary, say the iPhone, but that doesn’t happen very often and the creator is taking a big risk by creating something no one wants, or least no one knows they want. There is no such thing as “new and improved.” It’s either one or the other.

The hard part in maintaining your own website, is that it’s difficult to find an audience. No one is finding you through search anymore, and there is no mechanism for driving traffic. The only real option we have is promoting it on platforms such as this. I would like to invite you to check out my indie website. Eventually, I want to rebuild it from scratch and make it simpler and cleaner. For now, it’s a repository for my writing. #Writing #IndieWeb #Introduction https://www.davidtoddmccarty...

Disregarding the relevance or existence of the mythical villain from the Bible, Trump is unquestionably the mirror opposite of Jesus Christ and everything He taught, which literally makes Trump the Antichrist. If you’re a Christian, one who claims to follow the teachings of Christ, and not just a partisan hack, there is no other interpretation you can logically make. #Antichrist

I would not recommend anyone visit the US right now, but if we ever get back to relative normalcy, the one place I would recommend people visit is New Orleans. It’s unlike anywhere on Earth. It’s the best American city. NY, LA, Miami, Chicago, Boston, and Philly are all cool and interesting in their own way. But New Orleans is like visiting another planet. It’s not fancy, but it’s wholly unique. #NOLA #BigEasy

Albert has taken up a position on top of my Bluetooth speaker and is currently standing at attention as he listens to orchestral music. Usually, he’s very flat to the ground but he’s up on his toes. I’m curious as to how he will react to New Orleans jazz.

I’m not enjoying the 21st century nearly as much as I thought I would. In fact, I would go so far as to say it’s been a disaster thus far and doesn’t look to get any better any time soon, if ever. Prince was right. We should have partied in 1999 like there was no tomorrow.

I’m really missing a daily newspaper and am inclined to resubscribe to the NYT even though I know they’re problematic. Should I be talked out of this? Go ahead. Let me hear it. You’ll need to do better than a broad brush of dismissal. I would like a paper of record. #Media #Journalism #NYT
