making AI/LLMs consume the entire Linux kernel README and associated documentation would increase token consumption You’re getting the joke.

Yeah. Look at this guy getting 4 hours of OT every day.

Butbutbut the name has 'open' in it. How can this be? (I worked on OpenUnix and OpenLinux, so I get it)

You know those electric ones are quiet now, right ?

"if your feet are on black stuff, your life is in danger" It's a rule. Having said that, drivers need to be careful. But, when comparing size and momentum, one party should realize being right is almost as good as being alive. When a driver messes up, he'll go to prison; but the victim is probably a little worse off forever.

Why be misunderstood from human reading comprehension when we can be misunderstood from sloppy reading comprehension? Yay for technology!

I rented a scooter in iceland and - long story - dropped my phone just while renting it. Thus, renting a scooter was $400 that day.

But for a linking word. It's a comma splice.

If I had this in my college years - impossible since we had no Internet available yet at all - I'd've been laughing. Stay home, stay online, and hack all the waking day? BSc in no time. A dear friend lived near the uni in her home town, and so lived with her mom, rent-free, and just went all-out on coursework. In 3 years she got and paid to receive a BA. She earned enough for a BSc too, but didn't pay the fee for convocation and so doesn't have it. Three years. Wow, wo...

So lennart personally blocked the revert? Fucking on-brand for all he's wrecked in Linux. Is he still working at Microsoft, or was he just too special for them too?

Journalctl | grep -C 10 'foo' was useful for me when I needed to troubleshoot some fstab mount fuckery on boot. Ha! Remember back when there was no fstab fuckery? Good times. But you have a massive init blob slowly eating other services and replacing them with shitty replicants like this embarrassment (ohai root NFS) and all of us Unix people are chuckling in our reduced-fuckery ‘hell’.

Wow. Every word of that is frightening.

33 years with Linux (kernel 1.2.13, slackware). Worked at a distro. Worked in OS security -- Unix and enterprise Linux. I helped build United Linux out of the dismembered corpse suse kicked over the fence as 'collaboration'. Because of the validation issue in the .deb package format and others, I'm on a mixture of Rocky and Nobara. I'm subscribed to cloudLinux's tuxcare enterprise updates for some older stuff, and I can't recommend it enough. It's excellent; a...

We marked a line in tape at the door of my business. My cousin's girlfriend could not enter because we'd crash every time she did.

Your first question is a challenge to understand and could do with clarification. The second question is orthogonal to the disputes and membership situation, and may be unaffected if the people involved don't conflate the two.

Never tell the emacs haters why ctrl- and alt-stuff is just so familiar to the rest of us.

  • View post

Picture is incorrect : it should be vi people yelling at everyone, the emacs guy trying to defend, and the nano guy like Keanu, just like "sure, pal, whatever you say." At least, that's what I've seen from the vi cabal.

I work 100% remotely, and my day job doesn't even have profile pics. When we meet, it's a dozen cartoon images or memes as faces. No cams, no pics. The side gig I've had for 20 years has never had a pic. These people wouldn't recognize me if I walked in the office one day. Why should I? We don't see a value.

    > [TVs] rated for long continuous use Or, what we used to just label "TVs". The ones not rated for long continuous use should get a new name; perhaps "weak TVs".
