One of the TVs at a local Burger King has had a problem for at least 4 years now. It shows skin tones in blue as if it‘s a broken or swapped video cable. It feels so like being in a time bubble from back when YCbCr cables were common. And it’s cool because the neverending loop of music videos looks like a live stream from another planet.

RE: https://aus.social/@mikestevens/117008189778475455 I read about this 10+ years ago and have been writing down recipies like that ever since.

This vintage trailer I saw reminds me of the Norwegian movie „Kitchen Stories“ (Salmer fra kjøkkenet). I was lucky to catch it in an arthouse cinema years ago. It seems hard to get these days. Not streaming anywhere. 1 DVD on Amazon for 50€. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0323872/ #movie

The city of #Munich is admitting that our water supply is running low. We're famous for our good drinking water which is fed by aquifers from an alpine region to the south. But that region's glaciers have been melting for a while and there's less and less snow in winter. For the next couple of weeks there's a total ban on watering your lawn, washing your car outside of commercial car washes (don't ask, this is Germany, apparently this is still a thing), etc... #ClimateDiary...

RE: https://eigenmagic.net/@vampiress/116859241032699772 Reading this and watching the video linked in the blog post made me realize how little creativity there is in most of the VFX industry. We're mostly crafts enterprises: replace the sky, remove those antennas because the movie takes place 100 years ago, add realistic water, add realistic fire, make the plastic prop levitate. That work is mostly fulfilling and you can even offer options to a client, but ultimately you'll be...

@floe@hci.social I love that the photo is just students doing stuff instead of an energetic stock photo of smiling models that were cast to look like students!

@geekysteven@beige.party Random thought after reading your post: cars. When they were new they had so many downsides and fatalities that it took a lot of laws, lobbying and destruction of alternative modes of transportation (streetcars) 100 years ago to make them „here to stay“. The downsides didn’t vanish as we all know. We might be at a similar point where the industry will lobby, legislate and destroy alternative modes of computing to make AI „here to stay“.

This video provides a very interesting insight into virtual LED walls ("the volume") that became famous when they were used to replace greenscreens on The Mandalorian. It explains why the technique is useful but didn't fully replace greenscreens despite their multiple advantages. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcF_k5TO598 #vfx

This is the weirdest combination of thumbnails I have ever seen on Netflix 😁 #netflix

Funny story, that Claude thing. But I hate when I read that „AI goes rogue“. A „misdemeanor“. Or it „apologized“ and „admitted“. It’s a fricking text extruder that does random things because the algorithm thinks those words fit into its context. If you let such a program execute whatever command it spits out - that’s on you. If the cloud provider keeps backups on the same drive as the original data, that’s on them and you should try suing them. https://c.im/@cdarwin/116479704797697865

Started to watch the critically panned Borderlands movie on Prime. Switched off after 5 minutes. A planet called Pandora? A woman named Lillith? Nah... make up some new names! I'm bored already (I know, it's a video game adaptation) #borderlands

Our #VFXPipeline, database and renderfarm also supports shot numbers with emojis. Need to find my post about this from a few years ago 😁 Maybe I should test it again to make sure it still works. Back then, all I had to do was disable a regular expression that enforced alphanumeric characters. https://mastodon.social/@Edent/116436067873523016

Is there already a gallery of the most well-known memes of our age? Not some funny inside-jokes but more like the archetypes of Commedia dell'arte, where people of the time would immediately see a character's mask and know what he was supposed to represent? https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commedia_dell%27arte #memes

I just heard the Rickrolling music video ("never gonna give you up") and the movie Con Air were both directed by the same guy! Thanks to #PatrickHWillems who has an episode about music videos on both Youtube and Nebula. https://nebula.tv/patrickhwillems #NebulaTV

A Metro line in #munich can‘t run due to repair on the tracks. People flock to busses in rush hour. Bus is overloaded already. Who also crams in: mother with a stroller, woman with steaming hot tea that she will spill as soon as the bus starts rolling. Bus inches forwards through morning commute full of SUVs with a single guy inside.

RE: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@yiningkarlli/116444169352779312 Really cool effort. Resurrecting such old pipeline is like moving back to your childhood home and tailor your old clothes, just to recreate an old photograph 😅 Even for the original version of those songs the animators probably had real choreography references to base their work on. So the workflow itself is "standard". But doing these remakes in the first place is such a wonderful thing. #disney #bruno #ani...

@clemens Thank you for that extension! I use it every day. The only problem is that I can’t remember its name whenever I‘m setting up a new PC. 🙃
