When they were new they had so many downsides and fatalities that it took a lot of laws, lobbying and destruction of alternative modes of transportation (streetcars) 100 years ago to make them „here to stay“. The downsides didn’t vanish as we all know. We might be at a similar point where the industry will lobby, legislate and destroy alternative modes of computing to make AI „here to stay“.
