In the UK, for electricity generation, power from burning natural gas is about the same level as power from nuclear was in 2015. I feel like it would be cool if we could simply replace gas with nuclear, though I know nothing about the logistics and whether it's even possible! Does anyone know why our use of nuclear power has been gradually declining for 10 years?

UK petition: Ban the sale of domestic gas hobs and ovens We support a ban on the sale of domestic gas hobs and ovens to help the environment and public health. Ohio’s publicly owned MetroHealth study in July 2026 found that replacing gas hobs and ovens with electric ones improved asthma symptoms in a way that was as good as some asthma medications. This proposed ban would not include industrial gas hobs and ovens, nor emergency equipment. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/778184 Closi...

'In recent years, there has been a rush on the internet to supply image descriptions and to call out those who don’t. This may be an example of community accountability at work, but it’s striking to observe that those doing the most fierce calling out or correcting are sighted people. Such efforts are largely self-defeating. I cannot count the times I’ve stopped reading a video transcript because it started with a dense word picture. Even if a description is short and well done, I often...
