My lovely neighbor across the street has quite possibly the perfect Kentucky bluegrass lawn. Has been impeccably maintaining it for the decades I’ve been here. We on the other hand have ripped out 80% of our grass & she has been looking across the street at our mature, native, xeric landscape for 20 years now. Last week she decided to rip out most of her lawn too. The drought is too much for it. Going to go native. I’m proud of her! If she is willing to do this, I bet your neighbor might, t...

RE: https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica/117053887335664612 One of the best things about pre-search Internet was the thrill of discovery. You relied on tips from friends, BBS forums, and IRC to discover new things.

RE: https://mas.to/@TodePond/117060305989613310 This is true for me in my graphic design work as well: repetition brings a depth of awareness of elements and process that would be lost if I automated my practice.

Since I can’t ride a bike for a couple of weeks I spent some time today cleaning up my roadie so it won’t feel too neglected. I’ve got over 20,000 miles logged on this lil’ steelie! #bicycling

Credit bureaus give away the game when they tell you your credit score has *decreased* simply because you are taking out a new line of credit. They are a scam, a grift set up to harvest and resell your information, and should be banned or so highly regulated that any unauthorized use/leak of your information should result in — let's say — a direct payout to you of no less than $10 million.

My quandary: I biked to the grocery store and stopped at a coffee shop on the way home for an icy drink. Currently in the coffee shop, realizing it is now one thousand degrees outside and I have to pedal through it to get home. Or stay here and let my food melt/burn up

The first time I attempted to summit Mount Massive we were about 200 meters from the summit on a ridge and the clouds rolled in, uncharacteristically early. We could hear the ice axes on our backs humming. We promptly bailed down one side of the ridge on a snowfield, glissading about 400 meters in just a few minutes to get out of danger. Probably the scariest on-mountain event I ever had. https://www.9news.com/article/news/local/lightning-strike-mount-blue-sky/73-a8eb63c9-2264-464f-93bf-f11a3f...

My brother’s e-bike is saving the day for me as I gradually return to cycling after my back started crumbling to dust a month ago *and* as I recover from some surgery a week ago. It lets me move my body in a way that is beneficial and low-impact, and gives me boosts when I pedal so I can still get to places I enjoy. 1/2

The Little Free Library we host is still going strong. I tend to it every other morning or so, organizing it roughly by category and weeding out the religious tracts someone keeps trying to insert here. My brother in Christ if people want religion there are at least three churches within walking distance. This is a place for potboilers, romance novels, fantasy, science fiction, do-it-yourself tomes, and Very Gay Literature. 🗡️🌹🧌👽🛠️🦄🌈
