Bravo. My health insurance site is having issues but requires me give them a 2FA code. Their codes are only good for 5 minutes, but they're currently arriving after the expiration.

nginx frustrates me sometimes. I previously defined some error_page directives in my defaults for 502 and 504 to show a fancy page when my apps were down (maintenance or bug), and it worked. But recently I noticed they no longer do, and the internet's solution of enabling proxy_intercept_errors captures _all_ errors, not just ones I wish. I solved it by copying down the default blocks into the location blocks for each app, but I shouldn't have to. Also, nginx's docs n...

Ooo, turns out <dialog> can be triggered without JavaScript, the only problem is even if I set it to border: none; (or zero) it still seems to render with a 1px black top border, at least in Firefox. It's not an outline or a box-shadow, either. I can make it disappear by setting the borders to be 1px and white, but it'd be nice if it just did what I asked. I also noticed close buttons don't work unless set to type="button" when inside of...

I really dislike Git throwing up its hands when doing a merge if when local edited line 11 and remote comes down with an edit to line 12. Neither side conflicted with each other but yet it tells me to fix it myself. All these years, a new merge algorithm, and this is still a problem. π

RE: https://woof.tech/@asmcbain/117386042937410896 My pastebin I created for myself and an IRC channel is getting inundated with hits from meta-externalagent, which is apparently their AI-training crawler. Requests may be as spaced out as every 4 seconds, but generally much more frequent. Visiting the site creates a new paste automatically, and those pages have links to fork or view the paste raw, so it's just cycling and filling up my database as it tries to crawl an endless wastelan...

The really weird thing about Facebook's AI training crawler ignoring robots.txt is their link preview process (with a different user-agent) respects the robots.txt so hard that even when I exempt it, it still thinks it's forbidden. π

Well, after narrowing the tab slot I think this is about as good as I'm going to get without redesigning the tab to have wings. Wings will absolutely hold without tape, but if I screw up and need back in the box, I risk damaging them or the rest of the box in the process. I think next year this is what I'll stick with and just get away with a smaller strip of tape. Unfortunate, but that's what it is. I uploaded it anyway and cleaned the other documents: https://legacy.asmcbain.net...

Do I organize my files? Not really, but I know where everything is! That box I've been working on? drive:\Alastair\DFD\everything\scratch\Halloween\file.svg If I properly reorganized, then I'd never know where anything is again! π

It's not technically a failure, but it is... instructive. π The stack image is the prototypes with the earliest on top and "final" on bottom. The other shows the tab open. It works, but kinda in a "mission accomplished" sort of way. Jostling a box is likely to pop the tab out, so I don't achieve my desired tapeless solution. But, tape may hold this closed better than my existing straight flap. I can reengineer the tab with wings to stay closed, but that might be a...

Fred Meyer, a hypermarket chain owned by Kroger, seems to be all in on confusing. Discounts don't always show up when scanned at self-checkout, sometimes only after I hit "pay now." (I can still go back and scan more.) Other discounts don't even show up at all because I used my physical loyalty card, like an idiot. _Those_ items required an *e*coupon from their app. I've also seen items with two discounts: one for physical cards, and an extra discount for the app. It...

Finally tried a full repeating pattern. Unfortunately, I forgot my machine over-rotates for some reason so it overlapped. Probably a factor of it being a rim drive instead of a chuck jaws model, which wasn't an option for my machine (but would totally work; yay stupid product segmentation). I'm tempted to reduce the circumference and not readjust the design. Probably would still have a visible seam, but look better. This took 20 minutes, and I'd have to open a new case, so not rig...

Wasted 15+ minutes because of Microsoft's Terminal. Terminal supports tabs, but while tabs keep their names after close/reopen, they lose their current working directory. Fixable, if tedious. In addition, their histories all get commingled into one list. Sort of. Hitting the up arrow cycles through the mess, but sometimes it doesn't give back the last command run, but an arbitrary one from history. Thus I kept patching the wrong VM and wondering why the one I was looking at didn'...

RE: https://mastodon.social/@glyph/117028608500659615 In my limited personal experience: Haahaaaa, no. It showed just enough usefulness that it's still "full steam ahead!", at least until forced to switch to usage-based billing (from subscriptions) and it's then possible for the cost-benefit analysis to turn sour. Still also being pushed for including AI-powered features (at least it's not a chatbot... yet).

Bought a hook for sitting on doors. Says "fits most doors". Interior doors tend to be 1 3/8", outer doors 1 3/4". So by nature of there generally being more doors inside a building than out, they're they're technically correct. By for my intended usage, this does nothing for me. Guess I'll 3D print my own hook.

My M310's middle click is broken so when it flakes out I get double clicks or just no click at all. I did look inside the mouse once to repair the wheel harness, and again later for this issue. The harness hadn't rebroken, so maybe I wore out the button? I guess I could figure out kind/size of push button it is and solder in a new one. Part + shipping would be ~$11 (with shipping being 19x the part cost). A new one is ~$23. Does that count as "totaling" the mouse? Disposabl...

So I collect vinyl--not for speculation, though I suspect some of my stuff might be worth more than I paid for it--, and own a few 45s now. Mini crates, if they focused on fitting a particular item at all, seem to be made for CDs. π Based on the number of 3D prints I've found, it seems like there's a real market for just scaling down a milk crate, but that'd require having injection mold made, so I can see why it hasn't happened. Plus companies that could might not sell enough...

Printed what was supposed to be just a shitty bowl for to be a mini dice tray for Roll for the Galaxy (which features smaller dice), but the randomized layer start setting resulted in stringing across the entire interior. (The sides are only 4 lines thick, and walls is set to 2, so there's no interior there.) I changed the settings and am printing another one, but if that's awful too then I guess I'll try sanding it a little.

I have a Monoprice Mini Deltaβ from 2019. It was cheap and portable, but it almost never went places. Only printed once away from home. After a part removal incident, I replaced the bed surface with a borosilicate glass circle specifically for this printer I found on Amazon. Anyway, it made an awful noise today during preheat, stopping only after an off/on cycle. I don't print often, but maybe I should consider saving for a better one. β v1; v2 rebadged someone else's work and is di...
