Obviously Canada doesn't have the insolation of California, but look at the impact that batteries are having on the usability of solar energy. Why aren't we doing this instead of building more pipelines? https://www.latimes.com/environment/story/2026-07-31/california-produced-over-half-its-may-electricity-from-solar-world-record

@raganwald On the bright side I guess it proves that the US have made progress since the case you outlined - the acceptability of the two words has reversed.

Huh, this sounds really cool on piano. Some passages are almost like ragtime or blues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX2Ar1XpCE8

Folks with a business email - is anyone else getting hammered with spam offers to buy their business? I've been getting 4-5 a day for the last week or so.

Possibly the best court decision of all time RE a frivolous claim from a romantasy author. "Each [novel] is about 650 pages long, but that number is highly misleading because, with each successive volume, the print and the margins on each page get smaller and the line spacing gets closer. When Wolff’s works are normed for changes in print and margin sizes, they easily exceed 3000 pages – which means the Court has read upwards of 6000 pages of romantasy fiction." https://law.j...

RE: https://cosocial.ca/@alessandro/116483114715397836 So I looked it up, and the cutoff for millennials is 1996. Thirty-year-olds are the youngest millennials and the oldest Gen Z turn 30 next year. The oldest millennials turn 50 in 5 years.

I just noticed that Google finally got rid of that horrible "Looker Studio" name and brought back "Data Studio".

I've been a @fastmail customer for a long time because I like how they don't mess with the product - it's simple, reliable email and calendar. They just rolled out AI integration, but instead of baking it into the app like everybody else, they made an MCP server so that those who want to can plug in their AI of choice, while the rest of us get to enjoy AI-free email. Respect! https://www.fastmail.com/blog/an-mcp-server-for-fastmail/

If social meia and chatbots are so detrimental to kids that they need to be made illegal, why are they OK for adults? https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/manitoba-social-media-age-restrictions-9.7177470

Listening to "Ignition" by The Offspring for the first time in probably 25 years and I'm struck by how thrashy it sounds - almost like early Metallica at times.

@coop Hi all - I'm a recent migrant from another instance that had a much higher character limit (1024 versus 500). 1000 is comfortable but 500 is low enough that I find myself bumping into it quite often. Any chance of increasing that?
