  @daringfireball@mastodon.social Regarding Apple paying for travel to their events: I attended WWDC in 2002, and Apple payed for my hotel and maybe my travel. This was because I was developing file system drivers for Mac OS X, which was quite new at the time, and they wanted me to attend. My university didn’t want to foot the whole bill, so Apple decided to pay. The file system people obviously had enough influence then. The PR people presumably has much more influence.

  Over 50000 people marched in "The large climate demonstration" in central Stockholm today. The back of the crowd didn't even begin to move until two hours after the start of the march. After an additional two hours, the back of the crowd reached the final destination. By then, we had been standing or marching for about four and a half hours. This is back to the amount of people marching in climate protests before the pandemic, or perhaps even more. #climate #climateCrisis

  I’m now able to increase my programming speed by 10x, all without using LLMs. All I had to do was to adopt the chatbot-using coder’s mindset: Ignore 40 years of experience programming, my education and engineering best practices. Now I can produce code that no one wants, is completely unmaintainable and drains my soul. You don’t have to use LLMs to do this, it’s just an easier way!

  SVT hade igår en extrasändning kallad "Bränderna och klimatet". I denna kan man se en meteorolog som inte vågar säga "klimatförändringar", utan bara "det blir varmare", och en klimatforskare som får frågor som är så basala att det vore som att fråga "Kan vi verkligen veta att det brinner i Frankrike och Spanien?" och "Hur kan det komma sig att vi kan se bilder från Spanien på våra skärmar trots att det är så långt bort?"   The Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter writes about lower birth rates in Sweden. They mention the potential problems with a shrinking population, and that there might actually be benefits. The word ”immigration” is mentioned only twice, once in the description of how birth rate affects population size, and once as ”despite immigration from outside Europe”.   @overcastfm@mastodon.social Endless syncing after installing this release as well, just like the previous. I’ve tried on and off for more than 12 hours. The previous release finished eventually, but this time it seems worse. Leaving it open drains battery and crashes the app after a while. Switching to other apps and back after a while makes it sometimes restart the syncing and sometimes resume, but never complete. (iOS 18)
