Oh, nice #Github fails to serve a 3MB release asset :/

I have only two blog posts (out of ~80) left that still use the old C Preprocessor syntax for HTML. (Yes, I used C Preprocessor as my SSG at some point!) I'll soon be able to ditch half of my build hacks backwards-compatibility-ing the generation from this horrible format to everywhere. Just one last push, c'mon… #theWorkshop #theVent

I present to you a new drink recipe: Hayrish. Basically #Irish #coffee, but with #Armenian twist. • Take 150-200 ml of home-brewed coffee • Take 20-25 ml of Armenian cognac • Shake these until full diffusion • Alternatively, just pour them into one cup—but that’ll be less drinkable The result is coffee with slight spirit-y and chocolate-y flavor. Kinda nice, compared to much more raspy Irish coffee. Or maybe that’s me liking cognac less than whisky?

New bug reported to GNU ed(1)! Yeah, an implementation of an editor from 70s can still have bugs not ironed out. Or is it just me going too deep? Or both.

So my current tech stack is: • Code / task / build management and CLI tools: #POSIX make(1) • Most of programming: POSIX ed(1) with minor extensions shared by #GNU and #BSD ed(1) • Web, GUI, and writing: (Pidgin) #HTML and #CSS 3/4. With features up to 2023, but not later. Preferably without #JavaScript • In cases none of the above cut it and even ed(1) falls flat: R7RS Large #Scheme Rate how cursed this setup is, 1 to 10?

#SRFI 253 support was just merged in Sagittarius #Scheme, making 253 the most widely implemented SRFI since 158. Which is, like, 100 SRFIs and 9 years apart! I can finally write safe and explanatory code in Scheme, officially! #theWorkshop

While it is true that in ancient Europe, and well into the eighteenth century (obvious examples come from France), deliberate lewdness was not inconsistent with flashes of comedy, or vigorous satire, or even the verve of a fine poet in a wanton mood, it is also true that in modern times the term 'pornography' connotes mediocrity, commercialism, and certain strict rules of narration. Obscenity must be mated with banality because every kind of aesthetic enjoyment has to be entirely...

Wow, the tech has sure improved. This tiny cup of instant noodles had _a foldable fork_ made out of good durable plastic. Like, quality shit. And all this to go to waste in all instances of these noodles…

Made an exception to my no #YouTube rule to watch new #GhostInTheShell anime trailer. And it looks stylish as hell! And hey, it has cyborg lesbians! Hyped up. Sad that I won’t have time to watch it immediately when it releases due to life things.

So I’m designing a new #GUI toolkit with #REPL built-in, heavy on #UNIX philosophy and shell integration. Inspired by ed(1), of course. But I need to stress-test this design against possible use-cases for such a GUI. What are the small GUI apps you use daily or want to have that’d benefit from a really simple custom GUI you can hack up in an hour? So far I have: • Disk flashing utility (I keep forgetting the commands) • Shell • Music player Any other ideas? #theWorkshop

I like the affordances in this book I’m reading now. Every single page has author’s name, book name, chapter number and name, and page number. This helps in identifying the book by photo or quickly jotting down references to the chapter. It’s a good #UX!

This analogoffice post, Thinking is Messy <https://analogoffice.net/2023/03/25/thinking-is-messy.html> is a good affirmation for me making marginalia and chaotic notes. I should mess things up more. #theLibrary

    > We chose the format that was easier to type over the format that was harder to misuse. From <https://marcosmagueta.com/blog/the-lost-art-of-xml> Kinda echoes my Against Markdown <https://aartaka.me/markdown> in many ways. And likely to be met with the same dismissal as my post.

Just had an idea for a blog post. And wrote it. Feels like a banger. So hyped up, will publish in a week or two (to calm down and review again!)

Just moved my blog pre-publication checklist (or, rather, post lifetime checklist?) to Pidgin HTML <https://aartaka.me/pidgin.html>, which makes it slightly more reviewable and reulable. Benefits! Find it at https://aartaka.me/checklist.html and creatively steal parts of it for your workflows! #theWorkshop

So for some time now, I write most of the stuff I do in #HTML. In my own dialect of HTML, in fact <https://aartaka.me/pidgin.html> And I keep noticing things that HTML editing can be. And that #Emacs—my editor of choice—does not allow (yet?) Here’s a bucket list of what I want to have in my HTML editor: • Navigation between headings, sections, lists, and links. Quick opening of links. • Section collapsing. Has to be smart, to handle both semantic <section>-s and ra...

Oh nice, latest #CommonLisp cl-html5-parser incarnation <https://github.com/rotatef/cl-html5-parser> is archived now. Including my contribution bridging it with Plump. Meaning: no #HTML 5 parsers with nice API for y’all 😠

This <https://users.speakeasy.net/~lion/nb/> is a really involved system for thought recording in #paper #notebooks. A paper #hypertext system with graphs and subjects, if you wish. A nice one! I might think about integrating it into my paper workflows, but right now I’m more into narrative structures than fact structures. Thanks again @bouncepaw for sharing this with me! #theLibrary

Listening to NMIXX — BOOM <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-7ag-IkUdE>. I like the change of tempo and character happening in the middle of the song. NMIXX in general is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise homogenized #Kpop scene. Not that I minded similarity, but it’s nice for a change. #theStudio

My #paper #writing workflow so far is: • Write a rought draft as fast as I can, on as little pages as possible (often one page—I swing the short story / #microfiction way) • Often with one paragraph per line, with no blank lines between paragraphs. This means that my 30-line notebook fits around 25 paragraphs per page—neat! • Blank lines separating sections / units of the story • And then, editing, start adding footnotes at the bottom, indexing them numerically and adding a circled number fo...

Free #blog post idea for the #privacy and #cybersec people out there: You Are Insignificant. That's a Good Thing (Privacy edition) • Using email aliases makes emails look suspicious, but no one looks at them with suspicion • Video surveillance is happening en masse, so you are not being watched • No one listens to your conversations, because it’s too costly and chaotic • Web advertising can be tricked/incapacitated automatically

I like the simplicity of #English handwritten cursive. There’s basically one way to connect letters. Most letters have pretty loops. The amount of ambiguous letters is minimal. At least in the lowercase letters. Compared to #Russian letters which are quite overloaded and sometimes ambiguous. And have two ways to connect letters that are context-dependent! And the whole amount of letters makes for pretty weird shapes sometimes. And duplicated backtrack movement that’s wasting a lot of time to re...

Filling in my Common Place Book with quotes from Proust I noticed a couple of things: • Proust is verbose, occupying 1/4 of the page at once. • It’s better to write in longhand for future legibility. Which is part of the problem of verbosity and page occupation. • Resulting from these two, it’s going really slow for my Common Place filling. But it matters for future me, so I’m ready to tolerate that.

With today’s release Crescendo <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SEKt_0pdHM>, NMIXX have gone even further from conventional song structure than usually. I’ll have to re-listen to it once or twice to even understand the structure. But it certainly is a nice thing happening to #Kpop. #theStudio
