Talk Like A Pirate Day deserves more pirate jokes. 19 September, matey! A pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel stuck down the front of his pants and orders a beer. The bartender gives him a beer and asks why he's got a steering wheel stuck down the front of his pants? The pirate says. "Arrr, I don't rightly know but it's drivin' me nuts!"

Portland area people! The big juggling show that is part of the 34th Portland Juggling Festival is Saturday, 9/26/26, at 7PM at Kaul Auditorium at Reed College. It's an amazing show with national talent featuring the special guests of the Portland Juggling Festival. It's like no other show in town! (I created the Portland Juggling Festival in 1992 with a lot of help from friends and it is still going strong!) Tix: https://www.portlandjugglers.org/ #juggling #portland #pdx

Wishing Mitch McConnell a quiet final hospital stay. He's done more than enough damage to our nation for any single individual. Happy Juneteenth! It's an good time to raise awareness of the racist origins of tipping in the US. I didn't know about this until a few years ago. Following the emancipation of enslaved Blacks, there were many newly-freed people needing to earn a living. Restaurants hired Blacks but refused to pay them, or paid them little, forcing them into a subservient role of asking patrons for tips. Black Pullman porters spread the tipping practice across the US. 1/ https://www.npr.org/2021/03/2...

This Tuesday, 26 May 2026, is the centenary of the birth of Miles Davis. The documentary 'Round Miles is an insightful conversation among six jazz legends about Miles and his style. https://youtu.be/eJk48-8rSh8

OTD, one hundred years ago, Miles Dewey Davis III, was born. The American trumpeter Miles Davis redefined jazz several times over. At age 21 he was band leader and co-arranger, with Gil Evans and others, of the pivotal album Birth Of The Cool which collected up eleven 78 rpm singles from three recording sessions in 1957. Two years later he recorded the best-selling masterpiece Kind Of Blue with a sextet including Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane, and other greats. https://youtu.be/vDqULFUg6...

C'mon, Matt Gaetz, where is this blackmail list of Congress members who've paid off sexual partners using taxpayer funds? You promised to shame those who would shame you, so it's time to play your cards on the table. Rip the band-aid off, or were you just bluffing?

Portland's own Unipiper (if you aren't familiar, he's a unicycling bagpiper in a kilt with a Darth Vader helmet) went down to the protest at the ICE facility and played This Land Is Your Land on the Highland Pipes. https://youtube.com/shorts/tEGFPqYprEs

Mastodon safety: do NOT answer personal questions in post replies -- where you live, who you live with, what you do, where you go, etc. -- it might be the beginning of a scam. I've seen several of these in the past weeks. Replies that seem out of place, inordinately familiar or friendly, use of alluring profile photos, questions not really related or relevant to the posting. Be on guard for red flags like these. Report, mute, and block suspected scam attempts.

What the actual fuck? ICE has been holding three members of the Oglala Sioux tribe in detention since Friday. Tribal members are US citizens by statute. Homeland Security is refusing to release any information on these tribal members, other than first names, until the tribe enters into an "immigration agreement" with ICE. Again, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? https://apnews.com/article/ice-minneapolis-tribal-citizens-immigration-detention-29ac43de85569b80bd64875388097ab6
