“Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: […] like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.” —Jonathan Swift

> but i guess thats why I don’t work in marketing Yeah, I guess it is, because this article works in Proton's favor on multiple levels: * Plenty of Proton users have switched over from Gmail, still have their old account, and still, even with forwarding, occasionally need to use those old addresses. * People who search for or are sent a guide who've never or rarely heard of Proton might end up on their site and read a guide that lambasts Google and its usage of AI. * Meanwhile, Prot...

It's quite literally a joke about the Antarctica trip. There *was* one who changed their mind and was heavily ostracized for it.

Sorry to say that I did look at ResearchGate before posting and did find this. However, this is a "[Request full-text](https://help.researchgate.net/research-and-publications/discovering-and-requesting-research)" entry, meaning you need an account to message the authors about why you would like to access it and hope they accept your request. I still appreciate you trying to help.

Yes. [Did you know](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/autism) that the word comes from the German *Autismus*, coined as an alternative to the term at the time "autoerotism"? Derives from Greek "autós + ismós" – "self-ism".

Try VisualEditor on e.g. Wikipedia. You notice idiosynchrasies if you're doing something specific or are pretty experienced, but overall, the difference between the editor and the preview (fully rendered page) is trivial unless you're messing around with a few specific elements (even then, a quick 'Preview' fills in this gap).

I had my first actual small internal crisis the other day where I felt brief but real panic, like I was drowning: The *Titan* submersible is less than two months from its three-year implosionversary. Time stopped feeling real. Like, no, right? Surely no?

NASA’s Voyager engineers are like the final evolution of your uncle that keeps his 1974 Chevy C/K running at 400,000 miles. It’s the same autism across an ocean of resources.

> Has anyone proven that subway tomatoes, lettuce, etc. are actually nutritionally worse than supermarket equivalents? If you're looking toward iceberg lettuce for any kind of nutritional value (which teeeechnically it has) to the extent you'd be worried about a comparison between Subway and grocery, god help you, and I hope either the famine or your sea voyage is over soon.

Also, appliances were *way* more expensive – both to purchase and (thanks to wasteful energy etc. usage) to operate. [Bens Appliances and Junk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz21ZF9eQOk) has a good video on this that I imagine a lot of people are drawing on in this thread.

Actually, while we'll likely never know for certain, [it's quite debatable for the first phase](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Monument#Excavation_and_initial_construction), and we're reasonably certain it wasn't used for the second phase. There's no "yes" or "no" to this question; even the historians collectively don't know. (Although if "built by slaves" is implying exclusively or near-exclusively, that's definitively wrong.)

> I'm happy that the US is adopting metric. I don't know if you're just not from the US, but this dual labeling of groceries has been ongoing for decades. The US formally began transitioning to metric during the 1970s and has had plenty of dual uses ever since; it got cut short due to a mix of public apathy and active public disapproval, and when it was on its last legs, Reagan axed the metrification board early in his first term (not a defense, but it was seriously barely doing...
