We actually went out the other day and interfaced with the world in that way, which we hadn't done in ages. We danced, which was exciting. I met new people, which was also wonderful. I then spent a large portion of yesterday recovering alone in my bedroom because the world is extremely stimulating and I'm very much not used to it yet! I'm working on a few larger scale tattoo projects, one has one session done and another to go, one is booked for LA in October, another is just begin...

A portion of the Santa Ana river trail runs very close to our new house, and I went on my first run in almost a year there yesterday, and found it also runs under this beautiful historic railroad bridge. Hoping next time I remember to bring something to take photos with, it's truly incredible. There's actually running water, which in California this time of year is... hard to find, and there are SO many kinds of plants, including some of the most incredibly enormous Datura blooms I'v...

Today I got a little bit of painting done in the Grimoire, and am hoping to be a little less blocked to work on a brief writing project this evening. I also enlisted the offspring in packing help today, which was relatively successful considering. Which, for the record, it's a LOT easier to move if you're not emptying your entire house. I don't envy future us getting the rest of our stuff out of here to actually make repairs but that's a future us problem and hope...

Some of the paintings in the grimoire are based off of some of the woodblock prints that are in Agrippa's "Three Books of Occult Philosophy" and to be honest I've had such a bone to pick with Agrippa about this entire book but some of these prints are just incredible. If someone books "the Sun" spell I'll be able to share the photo here, and I really hope that happens if not tomorrow then quite soon.

Does anyone have any good book recommendations specifically for European folklore or even folklore symbol reference material? I have this idea to twist the typical Halloween flash into All Hallow's Eve/Samhain flash by creating images of the actual folkloric origins of the "typical" Halloween imagery. For instance, I think if I remember correctly the Jack-O-Lantern comes from some story about a turnip and a lump of coal and the wielder needing to walk about with it to...

So quite honestly I try not to come here very much lately because I lack the bandwidth to set up the filters for the consistent stream of horrific political things flowing down my timeline regardless of that I *have* filters for things like US Politics (unless I just filter for "US" which would be potentially effective but too broad) and I also lack the bandwidth to genuinely engage with the folks I want to engage with because that means, usually, scrolling through a timeline f...

๐ค It's happening! Finally the details are confirmed and I can share this thing I've been working on for a while -- I'll be hosting an Ancestral Sigil Making workshop on Sunday, October 18th at Brewja Elixir in Joshua Tree. We'll be working within a communal setting using a somatic method to pull two sigils: one made by us, that we will burn at the end to leave behind. One made by another attendee as we make theirs to carry ancestral wisdom forward into the season, marked with ja...

I just released my piece on spiritual bypassing, but we're still working on some kinks to the website so it doesn't look like it's updated live to the new site yet. Folks who are subscribed: let me know what the reading experience is like. Does it show up in the new site? Does it render in the old? Does it break? If you're not subscribed but want to read it, I'll hopefully have an updated link for you soon!

You know my writing is never AI because AI could not go on so many tangents and create so many intentional run on sentences. However, as someone who has pretty much always used emdashes very liberally... well, you know. It's a good excuse to try to practice using more apt punctuation throughout ๐

Also, the new website is up (Starlight is designing it) and while we have a little bit of work to do, adding some images here and there, it looks really nice. You should check it out if you want! It does a better job than I've been able to do previously of summarizing how all of these potentially separate-seeming things I do are actually intrinsically related to one another.

I have a very complicated relationship with my solar aspect right now. That's a lot to unpack, so I won't, but in the kind of more worldly consideration of this: I feel like prior summers have not felt so hard. It's possible that the fact that it got *so* hot so early this year has just extended the discomfort beyond the duration I can normally happily tolerate it, or that in prior years we've been wrapped up in the relationships with folks staying here and so our own physiolog...

RE: https://climatejustice.social/@rancholibertad/116944347497011525 It's funny because this paradigm of being questioned for what our qualifications are at the Ranch, as though we aren't proving pretty significantly that our research and lived experience is foundationally enough and extremely valuable, is the opposite of what I'm met with in response to some of my writing here on esoteric topics. Where with ecological topics folks are like "you literally cannot think about t...

I briefly mentioned this before but this is the new page of offerings -- you can also view them on my website. Let me make you something powerful for your altar, craft you a sigil to work into your practice! I'm also offering readings: Dreams are incredible tools for magical work. We literally experience our astral body in dreams, and when we learn to ask for specific answers they often reveal themselves to us. Even when we don't ask, sometimes something particularly important nags at...

Putting myself out there more than maybe ever in my life and receiving mostly radio silence in return like "I only need one yes! Just one!" But at the end of the day, I'm a bit overflowing with gratitude right now. It's been *really* nice to have this time without Star working, it's been *really* nice to have more time to do my own work again, and yes we're very stretched on funds still and will be for the forseeable future (until I get that one yes!) but money is not...

There is truly no real dichotomy between the "material" and the "spiritual". Everything Is, at different wavelengths, so to speak. Some things are more quickly accessible with our kind of named bodily sense perception: the table in front of us, the person sitting next to us, the concept of the people on this website that we know are speaking to us. However, that doesn't make you or the table or the person sitting next to us any more "real" or "existent"...

As a side rant: I'm floored that SO MANY folks with art degrees want to be tattooists. Why? Why? It's like getting a business degree to be a stipper -- you'll be a great salesperson, sure, but it's a shitty job with no benefits, it tanks when the economy tanks, and it destroys your body long-term. I tattoo and make things for people because I have no education. Because I learned to draw from ex-cons, and grew up idolizing the resident tattooist for the gang all of my neighbors...

So it's probably important that we have at least one more year of a corporate job floating us so that we can get some things paid off before we fully rely on my work and the Ranch to keep us going, but it's been kind of blissful having Star and I both focused on the Ranch, the kids, and my also having more time to work on art and the creative but still monetary endeavors such as fulfilling shop orders and marketing readings and such. Part of me just kind of hopes something takes off soon...

RE: https://pagan.plus/@harebones/116898271917835684 I hard agree with this. Divination is a tool, and if we're really good we can sometimes see the shifting pathways and possibilities before us or the person we're reading for. Whilst there may be something we're all marching towards, a programmed purpose or what-have-you, there are many many ways to get there and the debate of whether or not we have choice is rife with insistence on being able to make a 0 or 1 assertion forgetting...

I have the opportunity to give a class at a local venue, and even have someone help me advertise it. I want to tie together our conception of Practice as well as something pragmatically related to land stewardship, but I'm trying hard to nail down exactly how to frame this. Something like (not as a title for the class, just to name the concept): - Stewardship through Practice and Practice through Stewardship - Learning the rhythms of the land to reconnect with oneself and place in the whol...

Another thing in the pipeline right now, which is maybe ~2-3 months away from finishing if the insects are doing their job (I'm going to go out and check right now when I'm done typing this) is a boar skull with tusks intact. I'm open to keeping it, BUT I offered a very, very long time ago custom skull mounts so if anyone IS interested I can send pictures of its progress and we can discuss adornment or leaving it natural and mounting hardware etc etc and price since this one is worth...

Per the urgent mutual aid post from the Ranch, here's the update on my end: The short of it, without getting too into the situation, is that we will not be getting paid and we are now two technically unemployed people. With already not having gotten paid for two weeks, and three kids to feed, this is a bit stressful, and there are significant income gaps we need to fill, now. While I'll be looking for local jobs as well to fill these gaps, and my partner is likewise looking for more...

Some of the older newsletters on my site are getting a few random clicks from folks on the internet these days, and it reminded me that since I'm new to some of you here again, some of these are useful to better understand what it is I do if that's something you care to understand. In the article it says I've yet to take money for a tattoo, that point is now somewhat outdated as I have had one paid opportunity, and am continuously figuring out this space of being compensated for my...

Long Beach trip in a couple of weeks, very excited to work with this new artist. Have a big session with a dear client booked soon after that here at the studio at the Ranch, and we're anticipating probably a few sessions will be needed for that piece. By maybe August, before we start breeding and planting at the Ranch, I will have some time to travel to LA or San Diego areas to tattoo if anyone is located there and is interested. Emails are currently open! I've posted this before but...

My kid got this comic from the library called "Punk Taco" and superficially it's cute and kind of leftist and clearly has a coded play on Trump-as-nemesis kind of plotline. But then there's this kind of played-off joke where the punk taco main character meets this refugee alien who tells him his name "poopoo padoo" or something that the author intentionally made silly. The main character goes "That clearly won't work, I'll call you Phillip." And...

I truly cannot think of a good reason to curse or hex someone or something as opposed to enacting a positive working instead. I see this topic come up from time to time and the discussion always feels so immature. Of course sometimes people do horrible things! Working from anger is even very valid, but it must be controlled. Acting in the moments of blind rage before processing and pulling apart a situation will rarely get you what you really want -- let alone what you need. Someone does someth...
