@oantolin@mathstodon.xyz My favorite math book: Plain light green cover: "Advanced Calculus" Author Nickerson. 1959 Just looked it up: New edition available for Kindle, and someone is selling (replica) first editions, leather bound, for ages 10 and up. [for all those 10 year olds who've had a year of calculus and now want to study calculus on manifolds]. From the description of possible defects due to "age", I'm pretty sure it's one of the companies that gets a...

@theleftistlawyer@mastodon.social Before it gets to that, you can also say "Am I free to leave" (and leave if you are free). Once they say no or detain you, invoke your rights -- and if they trick you into talking, invoke them again and shut up again.

@ria@tech.lgbt my brother was once out on medical leave, and called his boss to find out if he was affected by a layoff. His boss told him, " I can't tell you, but I recommend you don't come back to work until you are *completely* recovered." It was illegal to lay him off while on medical leave. His boss was one who actually cared about people, but could not stop the layoffs.

#Privacy Pop up I'm tired of seeing: " Your Privacy is important to us! May we take it from you? **YES** no " I suspect when they say "important to us" they don't mean what they want you to think they mean.

#Proton #AI #LLM #AISlop After sending an inquiry to Proton support, I have been informed that "in order to remain efficient" they are trying "pilot programs" using LLMs to assist in coding their products. You might want to contact Andy Yen if this choice of his affects your confidence in Proton products. I don't often ask for boosts, but I would like this to be as visible as it can.

I stopped listening because most of the men debating were not respecting the debate rules, and the people with their fingers on the switches didn't listen to the moderator(s). It seemed that Katie Porter (D), Tony Thurmond (D) and Antonio Villaraigosa (D) were trying, and making fairly reasonable points. At the end of the second "phase" Katie Porter was permitted to respond to the student question, because she had the least speaking time (because she was following the...

The joy of having an artist for a partner: I got to help hold this beautiful quilt/banner at an Ecumenical Peace Protest yesterday (2026-04-23). The banner declares the rights we are standing for: life, home, food, love, and freedom for everyone! If you look close between the words there are many people, but you can't quite see they are protesting Ice, declaring No Kings (but also celebrating Martin Luther King), and otherwise supporting each other. artist: Cindy Sojourner, she can be...

@lisagetspolitik Because I'm ignorant: 1) Do all states do provisional ballots? 2) Do all states require you be given one if you are turned away, or are there additional conditions in some places? #USAPolitics #Voting #VoteSuppression
