"Oops, I meant to describe the syntax but instead I wrote down the entire interpreter semantics, because it fits in three sentences." From, What The Hell Is Forth, at https://blog.information-superhighway.net/what-the-hell-is-forth

Forgot that Tome of the Orange Sky has Sasuke end up kunoichi of the year due to wording of the qualifications. Meanwhile Naruto doesn't project Killing Intent but Paperwork Intent (the dread sense a tsunami of paperwork is about to fall upon you). TotOS being a Naruto/Nanoha crossover by CmptrWz

So, Friday morning my brain come up with Phoenix International Bearport. As in a place you go to in order to ride on a transit bear. I didn't know before then that carrying passengers was a major career path for bears, but apparently it is.

YouTube video includes cat yowl sound clip after someone tosses something off the screen --> immediate reduction of rating by a star for each time. (Never mind youtube hadn't used star ratings in ages)

A few years (okay, I think actually a few years before Covid) I ran across a publicly licensed ebook that walked one through making a modest text editor, adding a feature at a time. Upon discovering that I found myself wanting a series of such books covering various types a programs. How to write a simple spreadsheet. How to write a simple database program (maybe dBase clone, maybe an sqlite-esque database).

"I mean, if you just a dirt cheap little home server could this thing get the job done? Well, maybe, if you really hate yourself." Hardware Haven video looking at a Dell Optiplex 755 (wow, we finally got rid of our last one at work last year and we were all shocked there was still one in our inventory).

Video is reminding me that one of the things I'd do if I could just email my fingers and make a change is to switch the US over to metric paper sizes. It would freak out the right people, which amuses me because they'd probably whine about, "what's wrong with letter size paper," when it seems that's already slowly being phased out (printer paper is still 8.5x11 but if you check the loose notebook paper in the stores it seems most is now 8x10.5).

Fediverse hive mind: Anyone know of a tutorial for how to write a program to show the night sky? (I'm pretty sure there's a name for this, but I'm drawing a blank) And bonus, how one would plot the positions of planets, moons, etc if it was a fantasy night sky and not ours? #astronomy #programming #worldbuilding #simulation

Pretty sure I've said this before, but I'm always a little amused when the National Weather Service issues an excessive heat warning for Arizona. "Yes, you already said Arizona, why are you repeating yourself?"

Occasionally at the Institute For The Study Of Foxish Awesomeness we hear that some people are surprised to learn foxes can climb trees. As a reminder, foxes are nature's way of combining the best of canines with the best of felines. Foxes absolutely can climb trees. And if you think you saw one fall out of a tree or commit any other act of klutziness, no, you didn't. As you're just a human and we are foxes, we'd just like to remind you we meant to do that. Looking for advice/recommendations. I recently got the urge to dig my old dslr and compact point&shoot cameras out from where they've been hiding and I'm interested in improving my skills and current software options. Does anyone have advice or resources for getting the basics down again after years away, street photography, doing portaits, or current Linux photo software (including being able to handle Nikon d40/d7000, or Canon Powers hot S110 raw files)? #askfedi #phot...

Giggles at a comment on a Worm/Nanoha fanfic, in which said commenter proposed a TSAB crewman asking, "Wait, so she a former friend turned enemy turned magical rival and you haven't simply hit her with a giant friendship beam?" Which reminds me of the fanart for Nanoha that has Fate become sad at the realization that every enemy after her was befriended via progressively more impressive friendship beams (not including Quatro, don't threaten mamma bear's...

So the Blu Ray player I've been using for viewing YouTube on our TV has decided it no longer wants to load anything more than the menu screen background (already tried completely disconnecting from power and restarting). Long term I plan to set up some variety of Linux media streaming box. But for various reasons that's unlikely to happen for a few months. I'm thinking of just grabbing the base model Roku stick in the meantime. Any Roku/cheap streaming device opinions? #...
