I've been running a Tripplite rack cooler in the home server room for a few years. While it keeps the room cool, it also doesn't manage humidity super well, and only has two modes - Fan, and compressor on. So it cycles quite a bit throughout the day, It also places quite a bit of load on the UPS. With the AC on it, the UPS goes from being able to support the entire system load for an hour or so, to under 10 minutes. The high inrush also isn't good for the batteries....

One of my colleagues made the comment that he'd never been someplace as smokey as the lobby of Encore in Vegas when we were walking through it. He's in his early 30s. This reminded me of when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s, that there were smoking/nonsmoking sections that both smelled like smoke in most restaurants. Smoking was still really common up until the mid 90s. Seeing those big brown cigarette dispensers beside arcade machines in restaurants was normal. Smoking...

Looks like I'll be going to New Orleans for Thanksgiving week with @hypoidbear then taking a road trip with @VictorKoopa around the holidays. Need to figure out some things to do to get out of town for a bit between now and then, though..

Gonna have fun setting this up today after work. With the weirdness going on with computers, and a favor, I was able to sell my M4 Max Mac Studio a month ago for less than it cost me to upgrade to an identically configured M5 Max.

pixel.tiggi.es is now on Pixelfed 0.14.3. For you: boosts display correctly again (including in the official app), remote posts and search results keep their formatting, and the "photo reblogs only" setting actually works on your home timeline. That's the eighth fucking Pixelfed release in twelve days, two of them 95 minutes apart. The fixes are welcome, and today's batch came from a volunteer admin doing good work. But every release gets the same red "update as soon as p...

Uh, I would upgrade to Masto 4.7.2 if I was anyone out there hosting a Fedi instance. OpenAI hacked Anthropic using the bug in libheif. The same thing that 4.7.2 fixed/bypassed. So if this is a known exploit out in the wild, it's a really good idea to get on top of it.

An AIdudebro at my company just called me out at my presentation, asking me why I didn't use AI to solve a bug problem. I replied that it was not my problem to solve, and those who do should use governance if they choose to use AI to solve it. In the chat, someone else on his team replied, "Hey, we did just that, and we're going to be publishing the AI skill soon!" Said AIdudebro replied, "We need more of this! Great work!" Burrs replied, "Your team has th...

Folks think curses are dramatic. Boils, frogs, every channel on TV playing Barney. Amateurs. Here’s a real curse: every single person you meet, for the rest of your life, responds to your pain with toxic positivity. Your spouse dies. “God needed another angel!” Cancer Diagnosis. “Positive vibes are the best medicine!” You lose everything in a fire. “The Universe is just making room for something even better!” You lose your job, “The right opportunity is out there waiting for you!” With a ch...

Lindsey Graham is dead and the "don't speak ill of the dead" replies are already rolling in, so let's jump into that shit first. That saying is about 2,600 years old. Chilon of Sparta allegedly said it around 600 BC, written down centuries later by Diogenes Laertius, and Renaissance scholars spread the Latin version everywhere: "de mortuis nil nisi bonum." The Greeks had legitimate societal reasons for it. You owed the dead their funeral rites, attacking a guy who ca...

Got @VictorKoopa ‘s Asus Zephyrus G14 covered in Stek forged carbon wine automotive PPF, cut with a hole for the LED slash with prismatic PPF over that while doing the tint on the M2C.

#getfedihired I've got a role open, reporting directly to me for a Quality Engineering Manager Level II, 3-5 years leading teams of 10 or more. Fully remote, US and Canada. Knowledge of SaaS/FinTech is helpful. # Linux/ #K8s / #AWS / #Ruby / #Python / #Kafka / #Scala / #Javascript stacks. We do leverage AI, but I'm working to ensure it doesn't trod on the fun parts of the roles, but meets the requirements the business has. If you or someone you knows may be qualified...

Burrs made more strawburry su. The plate has blended strawburries and amaretto. All the mascarpone cheese/whipped egg whites and sliced strawburries with crispy Italy-imported lady fingers.

Burrs did a thing. Why? Reasons. Could be a 30 year anniversary fun project for me and @VictorKoopa - it’s running Street Fighter Alpha 3, but it’s getting a MisterCade and maybe a Vampire Savior CPS2 A and B board.

Got the RGB/SCART modded JVC CRT dialed in as much as it can be. Nice and sharp image out of a 20” consumer TV. Flyback needed adjusting for deep blacks.

Someone needs to make an alarm clock that sounds like a cat puking. For a certain set, it wakes us up quicker than any melodic chime or bells ringing ever could.

Got a much better mount than the shop did for the Thinkware U3000 in @VictorKoopa 's car. The Blendmount works for the Escort RedLine 360c, and the U3000 is mounted on a Viofo static cling film for easy removal should we ever need to, with a Thinkware/3M piece of heat blocking film on top of that, with the VHD adhesive on top of that. The shop mounted it about 4.5" lower than where it is with cables visible, and without the heat blocking film, directly to the windshield. Luck...

I want to call out the cute artwork that @mithmeoi did for me. Tigs, a burr and yerfage are looking at and pointing at the feed on Tiggi.es' advanced web interface. Completely matches the rest of my web theme. :)
