One of my colleagues made the comment that he'd never been someplace as smokey as the lobby of Encore in Vegas when we were walking through it. He's in his early 30s. This reminded me of when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s, that there were smoking/nonsmoking sections that both smelled like smoke in most restaurants. Smoking was still really common up until the mid 90s. Seeing those big brown cigarette dispensers beside arcade machines in restaurants was normal. Smoking was normal. I didn't even notice the smoke because part of my brain is still wired to smell it in the background as a thing, but it was terrible for my colleague. I'm glad we've made that little bit of progress. Though that's one more reason why I don't like the strip...smoking is still common. I suppose when you cater to addicts, you need to cater to most all of their addictions.
