  Hmm, so somebody from a publishing company just emailed me about picking up my book. Their email contains impeccable editing and shows (on the surface) a deep understanding of the book, its niche, and what reviewers have said. As if they've done a lot of research and at least read the free sample. But their email address is .hodder@gmail.com. Seems legit... ;-P Seriously, authors, be careful out there.   I've always been a bit of a survey junkie. Any time any company asks for my feedback, I'm going to give it. Especially if it's short. These days, I have an ulterior motive: if they ask what social network is my favourite and there's an "Other" option, I'll always choose it and type "Mastodon". Or if they ask what they can do to improve, or if I have any comments, my answer is always the same: "Join Mastodon". :-D #Mastodon #Fediverse

  @dansup@mastodon.social So with the People Directory, are you saying it only picks up hashtags in the bio, when determining topics? So... a) It won't pick up hashtags used in posts and rank them, so if most of my most recent posts contain wordle, it will list me under wordle, for example? b) It MUST be a hashtag in my bio, so because I have the words "Christian" and "Author" in my bio, I won't show up under those topics on fediverse.info unless I explicitly hashtag...

  @maxleibman@beige.party I must be honest, I know that's common advice, but it has simply *never* occurred to me to leave the tap running while I brush my teeth. Who would do such a thing? It takes two minutes to brush my teeth. Put toothpaste on the toothbrush, turn on the tap to quickly moisten it (half a second or so), brush to completion, turn the tap back on, rinse mouth, turn the tap off again. I just don't see how it would be in any way helpful to leave the tap running. Or have I...

  @hetzner@mastodon.hetzner.social I think we should get rid of DNS entirely and all revert to using local hosts files. ;-P Kidding!! But it would bring back that "elite", "special group" feeling we used to get back in the day. I miss that feeling.   Just so you know, asking someone, "Please may you ..." when you want them to do something is not valid English. Please stop doing it, it just makes you look silly. :/ "Please may I ...?" means "Please would you permit me to/Please do I have permission to ...?" "Please may you ...?" therefore means "Please would you permit you to/Please do you have permission to ...?" Which is nonsensical. #English #gram...
