@neatnik@social.lol I just want to point something out to y'all: before this kerfuffle, I had never heard of omarchy. And now part of me kinda wants to try it. Do you maybe worry about a streisand effect here?

@neatnik@social.lol How is it doing that? It's just some shitty dotfiles I really don't understand how that can be a well-orchestrated campaign to centralize power and influence within the Linux FOSS ecosystem?

@neatnik@social.lol Do you have any pointers to articles or blog posts that lay out the argument concretely, re "well-orchestrated campaign to centralize power and influence within the Linux FOSS ecosystem"? (Asking not because I'm skeptical about what you're saying, but rather because I want to have a deeper understanding of it.)

@neatnik@social.lol it seems to be an annual truth that some people value the specific moral character and ideology of the people who make a thing (to varying levels of quality-detriment) while others care about the quality of a product and ignore the character of the person who has made the thing, and that these two groups keep forgetting about each other and being shocked to learn there are people who are not like them maybe it's just the churn of young people learning the lesson because they were never introduced to it in formal education or childhood

@neatnik@social.lol DHH is a threat, but Omarchy is not as hardly anyone uses it or has a reason to. It should be shunned, yes, as should he, but he is a long way from taking over, and spreading the word about him will prevent him from gaining more power.

@neatnik@social.lol how are they centralizing power? So far I only noticed it as a niche arch fork

@neatnik@social.lol you're right about how bad it is, but what are we supposed to do about it if we were to take it seriously?

@neatnik@social.lol not to downplay DHH, but I’m confused on why you think this is a serious threat. There are countless more established distros, particularly those in enterprise. Taking money like this, I suspect there’s an enterprise play, but trying to get corpos to switch from RHEL and whatever AWS uses is going to be hard
