This is the first thing you see when you open it. A kerning nightmare followed by three lines that all just reiterate what the "book" is about, quantity without quality is the name of the game here. There is a reason I'm not saying this is 100% AI generated yet that I will get to in a moment. It is obviously full of AI garbage like this generated image of a forest full of balls of yarn with I presume the grim reaper waiting at the end of the path to claim more souls to fill the slop machine

@TechTangents@dialup.space My wife does stained glass, and she’s constantly reading about people struggling to use patterns they’ve bought through the internet - and she can instantly see why: they’re AI generated, and can’t actually be done. I wonder if your grandmother even looked at the instructions deeply enough to see if they were capable of being made?

@TechTangents@dialup.space It's happening in other crafts too. People post AI generated faceting diagrams that would not display what is shown if they could be cut. Can't wait for the faceting diagrams book to appear and someone shows me a picture from it and ask me how to cut that.

What a waste of resources. ☹️ And you just know that someone somewhere is making money out of it, selling it to some gullible person: buy our publish-SLOP service & get rich. 😐 Five to ten years ago it was ripped off designs printed on poor quality socks & so on, also mediated thru’ Scamazon (I was creating surface designs for PoD applications & we were all playing whack-a-mole until our publisher got involved; this feels like 1 step further & much harder for any one creator to deal with. Just yesterday I read about some startup running phone-farms to push genAI-created (fake) influencers & and it’s just… I can’t even… how did it…) 😭😩😭 #AISlop #Slop #SlopMerchant #GenAISlop #creator

@TechTangents@dialup.space Someone gifted us a potty training book for our toddler and I immediately clocked it as AI from the cover. I read through it and it was fucking garbage, just utter nonsense. It had a very similar title to a very popular potty training book, so I figured it was just an honest mistake.

@TechTangents@dialup.space The thing which always strikes me about stuff like this is that in the past any retailer which sold garbage like this to customers would suffer so much reputational damage that if they didn't fix it immediately they'd be at risk of going out of business. Imagine if a local bookshop had shelves that were mostly filled with books like this. But Amazon knows that it's "too big to fail" and people are now conditioned to just sighing and tolerating stuff like this and hoping for a refund. The odour of cynicism that pervades this whole chain from fake book maker to fake book retailer is choking an entire industry.
