computer is losing power and then coming back to life after literally ~1second. this happened twice within 30 minutes yesterday. so i stopped using the computer for the day, hoping it would go away. it happened twice within 30 minutes again today. so i'm suspecting this was not a short term thing. other stuff in my house doesn't seem to be affected, but this has happened before, rarely, as a fluke. one off, non-recurring, and we've had various other electrical issues. so just because other things aren't affected doesn't make me rule out house power failure yet.

where can i get a decent UPS that's safe and works well? i want to be able to rule out my house being at fault, and if the issue continues, i know there's something wrong with my computer or a cable or something. i know for power supplies that go in my computer, there's a whole tier list of energy efficiency and safety or whatever. is there such a thing for UPSes? supposedly they come with software to monitor power failures and safely shutdown; is there a particular brand that's "open source friendly" or otherwise works well with Linux? i would prefer not needing to run proprietary code for such a critical system function as power management, but i'll take any that has good Linux compatibility.
