If you’ve longed for more intuitive debugging in R and aren’t satisfied with having these behaviors tied to IDEs like Positron and RStudio, then I encourage you to take a look at {debugadapter}. This project is in the “strong proof of concept” phase, but life has gotten too busy for me to wrap it up. Unlike {ark}’s debugger, which is wrapped in a Jupyter kernel, this project is straight R. It works for any IDE that uses the protocol. https://codeberg.org/dgkf/debugadapter

In the past year, there’s been a growing realization in #rlang #RStats that maybe having all our eggs in the Microsoft GitHub basket might be a bad idea. @defuneste@fosstodon.org and I kicked off a small migration guide for #Codeberg - a GitHub alternative run by a non-profit and built on the fully open source #Forgejo. There’s still plenty more we could do to make the site more beautiful, add Forgejo action examples and make Woodpecker CI easier to use. https://codeberg.org/r-codeberg

Please DM to let me know if you’re planning to put together a proposal around one of these so I can give you more details and figure out how I can support you in the process.

And a couple other areas that I think need some love in the R ecosystem, for those looking for grant inspiration: - Package “features” https://github.com/r-lib/pak/issues/810 - S7 traits and cleaner mutable S7 objects via extension package https://github.com/RConsortium/S7/issues/34 - Ages ago I wrote a runtime type checker, {typewriter}. These days I think there’s more value in writing a static type checker that checks a package at build time. https://github.com/dgkf/typewriter
