And a couple other areas that I think need some love in the R ecosystem, for those looking for grant inspiration: - Package “features” https://github.com/r-lib/pak/issues/810 - S7 traits and cleaner mutable S7 objects via extension package https://github.com/RConsortium/S7/issues/34 - Ages ago I wrote a runtime type checker, {typewriter}. These days I think there’s more value in writing a static type checker that checks a package at build time. https://github.com/dgkf/typewriter

@dgkf@fosstodon.org on static analysis, browsing Duncan Temple Lang's github (mostly for C FFI stuff), found reference to this package https://github.com/nick-ulle/rstatic, they recommend in the meantime this https://github.com/flowr-analysis/flowr, maybe the workers behind flowr might appreciate/need/want some type of funding/wider recognition

@dgkf@fosstodon.org I have also created an issue in S7 with a feature request for "S7 functions": https://github.com/RConsortium/S7/issues/564 where the idea is to extend S7 to also include typed functions, where the types are converted into a stopifnot(inherits(...)) block.
