The issue is that random people are not security experts nor do they read security experts advice. They buy computers at Best Buy and maybe the guy at best buy helps them set it up and they click the accept button for the end user or whatever. this default unsafe behavior is bad and people who are everyday users of computers need to know about it.

@dlakelan@mastodon.sdf.org The alternative is people completely losing access to their data. I can't fault Microsoft for escrowing the keys by default (hell that's probably why they disabled local accounts) and let's be realistic here maybe a half-dozen people have their keys turned over due to a subpoena or court order. Like I said, for those that ARE privacy conscious there is a way to not have your keys escrowed with them. Or I guess you can use Linux & Luks and pray to god you don't lose your keys there.
