I wonder if there's anybody out there who might be visiting the National Archives, Kew in the next couple of weeks, or perhaps so close you could pop in without much bother? I'm in north Wales, and only need to look at one page from one document, the location of which within the library, even without help from staff, ought to be easy to find. I can't justify the high cost of my own in-person visit. If you can help, I can provide details of the 1898 document in question 🙏 #history #archives

@JanPV@mastodon.social I've used this service before to get a map. Just if you get no takers. https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/recordcopying/

@JanPV@mastodon.social I know a number of archivists, if you can provide the details of the document they might be able to help or point you at a non-Kew copy

  • @JanPV@mastodon.social I can go there Wednesday the 22nd of July. If you don't have any other takers by then, I'd be happy to.

@JanPV@mastodon.social If anyone's going, let me know if this cat is still there. When I went in 2019, he had clearly staked out a position where everyone walking from Kew Gardens station to the archive had to stop and appreciate him.
